It's the 60s and I'm driving along Connecticut country roads in september, evening coming on, and lights in the windows and a gallon of cider on the back seat and I'm in love and this is playing on the radio... Some things you never forget,

When I was a student at the University of Missouri in the early 1960s April Stevens was THE favorite girl singer on campus because of her recording "Teach Me Tiger." Our teams were the Tigers. Besides that, everyone loved her voice and her looks. What struck me was her musicianship. She was always on key, had beautiful intonation, crisp pronunciation, and valued less over more, which almost always is the hallmark of a great singer (even a "more" girl, Miss Streisand, came to feel that).

I agree with Polyphemus. "Deep Purple" was one of the first 45s I bought, and it still sounds as smooth as it did in '63. Nino's upper register is remarkable - no strain. April is sexy without being obvious about it. Notice how she stands up for herself during the last chorus. Girl power!

April Stevens absolutely knocks my socks off on this video. If there's ever been a smoother, more confident, sexier lady on video, I'd like see it. Incredible voice, poise, and beauty in one package...wow!

I just returned to this video from listening to Bruce Channel version. Nice change of pace here, with 2 voices sometimes in harmony, and in a different key.

This is a great song done by this great duo who came out of Niagra Falls, NY. And I love the song Deep Purple. My only question is, what is this thing of him putting his hands in front of her while she is singing? That would never be tolerated today.

It was the December 18, 1965 edition of American Bandstand, that was hosted by the late Dick Clark, whom we lost a year ago this past April. Some other KZitemr posted this very same video and had the date of the show on it.

@wlperman Here's hoping, April, that you continue feeling good for a long, LONG time. There are a kind of hitmakers who are defined by their hits so strongly that audiences won't accept them doing any other materal. You have shown over the years, on both your hits and album tracks, that you can take on almost any kind of song, personalize it and make it work. Music, as you know, is a way of painting portraits of human emotion using sound -- and you are a master portrait painter.

Nino Temple is at once the luckiest and unluckiest man in the world. Rocketing to fame with the help of one of the most beautiful and talented singers in the world, too bad that beuatiful and talented singer was his sister.

"putting his hands in front of her . . . .?": Nino's bad deportment: he refused April to sing in front of him or over him, fully in contravention of alphabetizing placement of nam, or, deference toward a woman Nino insisted on having preeminence in all things pertaining to April. He is not merely schmaltzy; rather, were it only being a prig, he lacks objective third-party perspective which would have opened his mind to how people of whole mind are likely to view his domineering antics.
