FINALLY! An actual video that explains all the history of Mario's early days. I swear, I've seen videos where they say that they're about Mario's history, when really it's just a video listing off all the Mario games there are. Thank you so much for giving us quality information.

Seeing Super Mario Bros for the first time was a revelation. I was 8 years old, and it was amazing that the screen didn't always have a black background, there was music that played continuously and wasn't just a single sound channel of beeps, but was actually good, and the levels weren't just one screen. Oh, and there was a definite goal that wasn't just "get the most points!"

Same bro. I remember seeing a couple of adults play (my uncle and older cousins) and I said let me try. It took a long ass time for them to finally hand over the controller but somehow I was instantly better than them. When I got the system myself I mastered it and could speed run pretty much every stage. Good times!!!

Another fun fact is that Super Mario Brothers is ranked number 2 because it came with some special bundles of the NES. The video game that sold the most copies without being bundled with a console was Super Mario Brothers 3, which sold about 18 million copies.

I've been watching these internet reviewer-type guys for years and though I love many of them, they often try too hard to be humorous -- often, sadly, to the point at which it actually detracts from what I came to watch. Some of them can do it decently and a very select few can actually do it well enough that it adds to the whole thing, but most of the time it just gets irritating. Here's a guy who basically straight-up gives loads of interesting info, no messing around. I love it.

You're awesome and make perfect points. I totally agree that SMB was the first that had a non-flimsy plot (...arkanoid had a plot... but you'd never connect the game play with it..ever). The fact that when watching the cartoon, you could comment on "...oh wow, just like the game!" really showed that it was deeper than others. I realize there was actually (somehow) a pacman cartoon...but really, where's the bar of expectation there?

Actually, the only real sequels were The Lost Levels, 3, and World. Mario spawned a bunch of different *series*, not *spin-offs*. Granted, there were some spin-offs (Mario Kart, Mario Party, Mario Golf), but they were actually series, e.g. one series consisted of SM64, SM, SMG, SMG2. The NSMB series is actually a separate (or 2 separate) series: NSMB+NSMB2, and NSMBW+NSMBU.

Actually, the idea of plumbers from NYC is not that crazy. Due to the large population of NYC and the fact that the sewers are mostly made of bricks (which shows SMB on the underground levels) and the common myth of reptiles such as turtles, mushroom, and other animals living in the sewers plus the amount of times a house can get backed up; there are alot of plumbing problems in NYC.

That's not the argument. Yes, it was bundleware, but it was an actual game on it's own. Not a bunch of minigames. It was also when nintendo was a young company. They have their name everywhere now. They don't need to bundle tech demos with systems in order for people to buy their games.
