Whoever did marketing for Nintendo back then had it figured out. When I got this in the mail I watched it probably 100 times before the launch and BEGGED my dad for a Nintendo 64, which I got.

I ended up getting this and other VHS tapes for free through being subscribed to Nintendo Power. I can't count the number of times I watched this video from end to end and I loved it. I had some insane hype for the Killer Instinct 2/Gold teaser at the end since I was a big Killer Instinct fan. Good times, this tape. VERY 90's.

Ah, the N64! One of the consoles that nowadays, you'd have to be alive at the time to truly appreciate. I had this VHS as a young teen and this was the first console I bought myself. On a CRT, you couldn't even see pixelation. The controller was the first to introduce true analog, which other companies mimicked in their consoles, among many other things. Only console I remember being able to play 4 player simultaneous battle in Mario Kart 64 and Deathmatch in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Fantastic party games, not to mention Mario Party series that started here. Too many things to mention. Thanks for the video upload :)

On Spetember 29, 1996.... once I heard that date in this tape at the time... I was like FINALLY! This console was delayed numerous times. After all, the original Killer Instinct arcade intro with it's "Available for your home in 1995 only on NINTENDO ULTRA 64!!!"... nearly 2 years of delays.

12/26/2023 - I just found my VHS of this episode. I have this one, StarFox and Diddy Kong N64 promotional VHS I received from Nintendo Power Magazine. The Diddy Kong has a broken hinge. But all three still have the plastic on it, I only cut a slit for the VHS to come out.

By the 2000s, who didn't get their info about video games online? Not just Nintendo Power, other gaming mags that were big in the 90s, such as GamePro, EGM (before it became EGM Now), declined in popularity as well.

It was a 90's thing for sure. I remember being STOKED about every episode of Nintendo Power. My favorite part were the fan submitted drawings at the beginning of the magazine, but I poured over every page.

This was sent out free to Nintendo Power subscribers. My dad was in the magazine for an insane Dr. Mario score he racked up while taking a shit. I still have this tape and the professional photo of the game boy with his score. Yes, he hired a photographer. Life's funny sometimes. Thanks for sharing this!!

+Pwnsweet Actually everything was anti-aliased on the Nintendo 64. That's why everyone complains that the textures in N64 games look "blurry" compared to Playstation games, which had distinct pixels.

+Pwnsweet looks like better AA than modern consoles like ps4 or xbone where AA is completely absent in most games and is sometimes an after thought.

This did have AA technology. Keep in mind digital tv's weren't a thing when this and PS1 came out. You couldn't see the pixelation on the CRT screen, period.

@World of Nintendo, you also would get this if you were already a subscriber to Nintendo Power magazine. Which back then was like $19.99-95 a year for 12 issues. You’d get the whole shabang while each magazine in store was $4.99. So it was a no brainer. You would get the vhs for free. A few months before launch.

@@ThePainlessGamer I remember seeing images for Mario 64 in a EGM back before it came out and some of the textures and such were different as well. Wave Race was originally a boat/RC boat that transformed originally. KI 1 was supposed to be on N64 until it was delayed. System was originally called Ultra 64 w/ different logo and gray controller buttons instead of the famicom rainbow style. Man that was awesome back in the day.

It was one of the three games available at launch (all present in this video), so we played it a lot. It wasn't particularly good -- so once better games came out it was quickly forgotten.

Yep, it was originally planned for the N64 then moved over to GameCube. Its development lead Sakurai to leave HAL Labs.

@TrueGamerOpinion 1. The comment was referencing the guy who uploaded the video and who discusses the VHS tape at the start. Not the actual voices in the VHS tape. 2. Matthew Broderick had no reason to get his start voicing a VHS commercial in 1996. Ferris Bueller's Day Off came out in 1986 and War Games in 1983. In 1996 he was co-starring in a film with Jim Carrey.
