+jp mesquita agreed. I may have not known Mr. Iwata personally, but I feel like...in an indirect sort of way, he has had in impact on my life. Reggie said that Mr. Iwata helped make the WIi, that he had direct influence on it, and in many of the games I play from Nintendo, it says that Mr. Iwata was the producer, so he had a part in making those games. I guess I'm trying to say is, without me really even thinking about it, Mr. Iwata was there. He and HAL Laboratories helped make Super Smash Bros Melee, and even if I wasn't aware of the competitive scene when I first played it in the early 2000s, Melee was there for me in many hard times in my life. When I would be so angry that I wanted to hurt people, I would instead, unleash that aggression in Smash Bros. Smash Bros, NINTENDO, became therapeutic for me. it's funny how someone I never knew, was able to reach out to me through his creations and contributions. That is what makes art so special, and that is what a video game is, a work of art, of animation.

To all those heartless bastards being disrespectful during the tribute and celebrating his death, let me ask you something. Let's say you were Iwata. You became Nintendo of Japan's first president to not be in the Yamauchi family. You cut your salary for your colleagues. You refused to fire anyone so staff morale wouldn't go down. You told your staff to do what they want when making a game and those games went on to be great games. You ran a company that put smiles on people of different ages; young or old. You went against what your father wanted and pursued and achieved your goals. You knew everything you were being taught in university. You continued to work while your health was getting worse and worse. You created the prototype of Super Smash Bros. all by yourself on your day-offs. You made sure Super Smash Bros. Melee was able to release on the scheduled release date. You saved your company when it was in ruin. You were offered the position of president from the president himself and exceeded his expectations. You didn't take any of the praise you were being given, saying "I was simply doing my job." You died doing what you love; gaming, making games, running a company that makes games, and you knew there were heartless and sadistic people laughing, smiling, celebrating that you are dead, being disrespectful while your friends, family, fans, colleagues and fellow gamers and game developers even your companies biggest competitors, Sony and Microsoft were mourning your death! How would you feel knowing you left a legacy that not only touched the lives of many people but also helped the gaming industry move forward and there were people, back here on Earth, celebrating your death, laughing at those who are mourning you. How would you feel?

+cutie patootie he really has. I find it interesting how...I didn't know until recently that HAL Labratories was the company Mr. Iwata worked for, and since HAL helped make Super Smash Bros Melee, that means that Iwata helped too. and a lot of the games I have say in the end credits that Satoru Iwata was the producer, so...he helped make those games and products. Without me ever realising it, he was making an impact on my life. When I first played Melee in the early 2000s, I didn't know about the competitive scene, but I still loved Melee (and still do) and whenever I had a bad day and was angry to the point of wanting to hurt people, I would instead play Super Smash Bros Melee. Melee and NINTENDO became therapeutic

XxAngiexXRPI it breaks my heart that I'll never see his name on the end credits. He's helped in so many ways possible. Playing all the games he's been apart of is super therapeutic as you said. But the competitive part is superb as well.

cutie patootie same here, and it helps me bond with my family. My mom has nevre played video games before until the 1980s, she played Super Mario Bros for the first time back then, and eventhough she's not really into video games, one of her favorites, is Animal Crossing. It was simple enough of a concept that people who don't know how to play video games can enjoy it, and I thought it was cool that thanks to Satoru Iwata, my mom was able to experience the fun a video game can give you. Same here. I love competitive and action oriented games, but sometimes it's fun to just relax and play something more care free, like animal crossing. I also find it cute how Animal Crossing is essentially just a game about paying off the mortgage of your house....WHO THINKS OF SOMETHING LIKE THAT FOR A VIDEO GAME?! lol Nintendo, cause that's their thing, they love making zany and fun, and unique games. Video games as a whole, make me feel like I have control, something I feel like I've never had

This man has influenced mostly every child that has played video games. Growing up I worshiped Nintendo playing Pokemon, legend of Zelda, Mario and much more. Every Time I hear about his death truly saddens me, live on Iwata...

You can feel the pain in Reggie's Voice. He truly felt a connection with Iwata and that he was his friend. At every second, Reggie looks like he would break. It's not easy to lose a loved one. And when you have a friendship like Reggie Fils Aime and Satoru Iwata, It gets even worse. Condolences to the Iwata Family, and here's a little bit of Iwata to get you through the day and live by. "On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my mind, I am a gamer." Rest in peace, and have a great ride on N64 Rainbow Road.

+HTakara82 Yeah it's kind of sad to think so many gamers hate on anything 'new'. Branding everything as 'gimmicks' or just moaning about what is done. Maybe if gamers were more open to new approaches rather than being so critical off the bat, businesses would be more inclined to try new things. I really respect Nintendo for trying a lot of new things like the gamepad with the Wii U. Even though it hasn't performed well at all, at least they're trying. The PS4 is pretty 'safe' and yet is whipping the other two consoles arses.

I credit Satoru Iwata for making some of my favorite games even better than they could have been. He also became CEO during the GameCube, my favorite console. He did his best to keep it afloat and he's a big reason the Switch is the success it is. Cutting his own salary and refusing to fire people during the Wii U's struggles, is how a CEO should be.

To me, Iwata represented what games should be ideally: they should be fun, they should be art, they should be fair, and they should be worth the work. And he represents what the industry should be: willing to build trust with consumers, letting games and content speak for themselves on a business level as well as an entertainment form. Farewell, Iwata. We understand.
