I got a used 2017 Platinum Reserve diesel. Love the truck. I dont drive it often though (for city driving i use another car). I take the Titan XD when i need to drive long distance or when i tow my travel trailer. Getting 11mpg when towing a 6k trailer and 18-19 mpg without. Sometimes it sits for a month before it gets driven. Any advice? Should i be driving it more often even if city driving? I dont fill up DEF all the way, except only when i tow, i drive through a truck stop and fill up the def tank. (I assume they have fresher def).

Lukman, I use my truck the same way as you. Really just for long distance driving and towing. I like to know that I have fresh DEF so I use the Walmart brand and check it before I put it in my truck. Also, just like you I only use how much DEF is needed for the situation. Usually I keep it at half normally and full when towing depending on how far I'm towing. 1000 miles towing would be full. 200-300 towing just normal halfway. I do keep 2.5 gallons of tested DEF with me when towing far just to be safe. Diesels can sit for a month with out problems but you should be adding a fuel additive so the fuel doesn't get stale. Check out my other video on that for details. I drive my truck at least once a week if not for just the fun of it. As long as your trips are 10 miles or more each way then it's really not a problem to drive where ever you want to go. Yes it will regen more but as long as you let it finish regenning completely after one to two trips it's not going to be a problem. Enjoy your truck and thanks for watching my channel.

@@works4me thanks! Yes, i already saw that video and order the additive (Amazon had a sale few days ago). I was hesitant to put additives - i didnt know how the emissions system would behave if it gets chemicals. But i heard from several people about this brand and i will give it a try. I read horror stories but i guess it is selective bias because only the problems tend to get posted. The whole family loves the truck- whenever we go anywhere they ask me if we can take the truck and not my suv. :)

I test drove a 2021 Titan XD SV 5.6 Liter gas engine on a Saturday. I test drove the truck up and downhills and on the freeway. I brought my wife to the dealership on Sunday and let her check out the truck. After she spent about 30 minutes with it, she told me to buy the truck. We have had it for two months and we really like it.

I have a 16 and it has been flawless. You are correct it handles that 5 to 10000 pounds like a champ. It's a shame they didn't put enough marketing into the xd because it's a great truck. I came from a f150 Ecoboost. The truck has the power just not the weight. Ecoboost was really thirsty while towing where the xd doesn't necessarily sip the gas but I do get anywhere from 3 to 5 mpg better with it.

Stumbled upon your channel as I’m researching titan diesels. You seem to be telling my story, somewhat. Lol. A month ago I used my avalanche to tow a 34 foot, 6500 lbs RV across country. Went ok until I hit Wyoming and the slow treck up hill to and thru Cheyenne, from about 3000 ft to almost 9000 ft elevation. I was one of those in the right lane, at 45mph and flashers thats when I knew I had an issue. I knew my truck had the horsepower, but I didn’t figure on the lack of torque and the elevation. The last few miles to the property at 8600 feet was a killer and I didn’t even try the last part. Parking it on a friends land until I could secure a rental or borrow a better truck. That’s when I met a fellow camper with a 2019 titan diesel pulling a 9000 lbs fifth wheel. What a machine, he towed it up the last few miles with no effort. I was sold. So now I’m looking but with the pandemic and things shut down, the dealers are asking almost new prices for a 2018 or 2019. The same trucks that a year or two ago were sitting on Nissan lots unsold. So I’m forced to wait until the prices come back down to reasonable. Sure hoping they do cause I ain’t paying $50,000 for one. Heck I can get an F250 super duty for $55,000. Thanks for your video and the other one on the five items. If I ever secure one, I will follow the advise.

I love mine so far it's 2016 Pro 4X. I got it for the Overlanding, car camping. I was looking Toyota Tudra but no locker, then Power wagon is way too expensive. there is problem with Cummins engine on this 5.0 L , but I got used, some of that been fix as I got with 70,000 miles, right now 90,000. Its little big as I wished foor the tight trails, but I'm rock crawler, never actully like it as brake a truck. It's more forest service roads, some trails. I have winch installed 12,000. One notice I wish it has a bigger Def tank.

Hi Mike. Thanks for watching my video. I haven't had one problem from my truck. You're always gonna get people that have problems, to be the loudest on social media. There are also some real haters on this diesel because they have had problems. Then they search out every forum and social media site and spread the bad word. There is no modern diesel truck today that doesn't have something go wrong with it when a person doesn't use it for what it's designed to do. I pretty much only use my truck to tow my travel trailer and put only 5k miles a year on it. So I don't have the experience to tell you it's had no problems and I have 100k on it. I wish I did though. If you plan on buying this truck, make sure they have good records on it's maintenance schedule and if it has been done thoroughly you should be good. If it has been deleted then watch out for the turbo because the program usually overdrives the turbo in many conditions. If you have other questions feel free to ask.

I have a 2018 Platinum Reserve Titan XD Diesel that I bought in Fairbanks when my old Nissan Titan died. The display that shows the DEF level never moves from full. Is this a known problem? The local IN dealer tried to fix it but failed.
@works4me
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dale. First, thanks for watching my channel. I frequent the Nissan Titan XD Forums and don’t see any gauges that actually don’t work. Now, the DEF level gauge isn’t linear. Myself and others have observed that sometimes until you use a couple of gallons the gauge won’t move. Not towing you should be getting about 1000 miles per gallon of DEF. Towing, less than half that. So essentially the gauge might not change for 2000 miles then say it’s half full. Three questions. Have you ever thrown a DEF error code? Have you ever got the message “DEF at 25% fill soon”? Finally, has the truck ever gone into limp mode because of the low DEF warning?
@dwoodward63
3 жыл бұрын
@@works4me Thanks for your input. I towed an Airstream back from Alaska and I recall seeing the gauge say more DEF was needed during that 5K mile trip. I haven't put any DEF in since I asked the local Nissan dealer about the level display. He fussed around with it, eventually putting a new transmitter in, then replacing the whole tank. That was over 1000 miles ago. I guess I'll just keep driving it with a box of DEF in the backseat until either the level starts to change or I get a warning to add more DEF. Maybe I'm just too impatient.

@works4me
4 жыл бұрын
So if you need the diesel for towing over 6k lbs over 20% of the time, then I think that truck is worth that price. Because Nissan doesn't make this truck and engine combo anymore there isn't a way to really tell how much to pay for it. Only you can know if it's worth it to you. You will pay over 60-65K for a new diesel truck that is optioned like a Platinum XD, from any other maker of truck. Hope this helps.

Interstate driving only with cruise set at 70 to 72. Two separate trips going from Florida to NC mountains and back. Twice I got almost the same 23 mpg. Total for each separate trip was about 1300 miles. Hand calculated mpg was 22.6 first trip and 22.4 second trip. Thanks for watching my video.

JJ. Congrats on your new to you truck. Glad to hear the actuator will be covered under the warranty. I don't think you got a lemon either. I haven't heard of actuators going out after they have been changed so this might be the only hiccup. As long as you monitor the regen cycles and work it, you should have many trouble free miles. Make sure those fuel filters have been changed at the 10k intervals and run a diesel fuel additive. Enjoy your truck and thanks for watching my channel.

Hi Rudy. I haven't had any issues in the 22 months and 15k miles I've owned the truck. If you will be towing or long distance driving this truck should give you years of good service. If city driving you will need to get an obd2 reader that can tell you when you are regenning and your temps at the turbo. I would make sure that the lifted XD has the correct offset wheels so you don't have any issues with steering and hub component problems down the road. Also, not sure what state you live in, but make sure that it isn't deleted unless that's what your looking for. Hope this helps and thanks for watching my channel.
