Thank you, my son is running into the same problem and so far this is the only video about this situation that I’ve found. It’s nice that you get to the point, most like to show off, not problem solve. Lighting may help it was a little dark, but very informative.

Thank you for the kind words yes sometimes I fall short on the lighting. I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who’s ever made a video that but I think with the detail I give it should be pretty easy to do that

Yes the only bolt it’s a real pain in the butt is the one that is in the back corner on the passenger side other than that I really did not think it was that bad of a job

Thanks for the video. I'm going to do this on my 1998 Pathfinder R50 with VG33E motor. The nissan manual calls for lots of items removed before getting to the oil pan, for ex. starter, transmission, front differential, front suspension cross member, etc. I'm scared to start but I need to fix this engine. BTW I love your comment "pretty straight forward"! :) I have worked on a few other cars but never seen an oil pan that hard to get to.

Wish you did a step by step video on this oil pan gasket replacement thinking of buying a 2002 Nissan Xterra the seller said it needed a oil pan gasket so I took it for a test drive and after that I noticed oil poring out of the engine this is the only you tube video on this topic ,

His comment was pretty legit. Wanted a step by step. But it seems like there's a whole lot of crap to remove in order to pull that pan.🤷🏼♂️ mine is cracked a little above the plug on what seems to be a welded joint...

Yeah sorry about that sometimes making these videos can take and make a five or six hour job a two or three day job and at that time I didn’t have the time to be able to do it I’m sorry if it was not helpful for you I certainly do the best I can and work with what I have to work with.

Great info on this video! Why was the transfer case being dropped? Was that related to replacing the oil pan? When I attempt this I do not need to touch the transfer case right? Also I got the end seal gaskets, And rtv the rest? Or is there a full oil pan gasket?

No I do not but I would assume that you can drop the front differential down just by removing the bolts but you wouldn’t have to actually take it out. I’m just guessing no I’ve never done it that way

Can you confirm: RTV is used for the pan, and the half circle at the rear has a rubber seal? Or does that get RTV too? I have a bad oil leak between the bell housing and rear of engine. Do you know of a specific way to diagnose if it is rear main seal or oil pan gasket?
@sharpcarco
3 жыл бұрын
I do not know how to tell you the difference between the rear main leaking and the oil pan without looking at it You would apply Permatex all the areas where the two medals meet I replaced my oil pan because it was rusty they don’t just generally start leaking at the seal unless the PCV is defective
@XterraRob
3 жыл бұрын
@@sharpcarco did you also replace the curved seal where it mates below the rear main and front seal? Looking at rock auto at oil pan gaskets, all the kits have a tube of RTV plus two little curves rubber seals that go on the sections where the circular cutouts are (front and back). Wondering if you replaced that or not? Lots of people seem to have issues with the oil pan leaking at that circular cut out where the extra rubber gasket goes. Its commonly mis diagnosed as a rear main seal from what I have read. Thank you for the reply. The video is very helpful.

I don't know if you are still watching this channel @TheClayWay, but I have a 2004 nissian pathfinder that is leaking oil. Reading the hayne manual looks like I am going to rip have my hardware off. If that's the case, is there anything that is good to do at the same time while you have this all ripped apart?
@sharpcarco

Not really much to do while you have the oil pan off that I can think of off the top of my head . On these particular vehicles I highly recommend . you do a transmission cooler. The The radiator in these particular vehicles split on the inside and send coolant into your transmission fluid that’s not a good thing I appreciate you asking and I wish you the best of luck And if you reach out to me on Clays Acc and Auto on Facebook on your messenger I can give you an example of what you should use

If you're having to change your starter, it's more than likely not the pan. Either your valve cover gasket or rear main seal. From experience.
