We try Nitecore's NU11 headlamp for hiking. The unique feature of the NU11 is a button that activates an IR sensor which allows the lamp to be turned on by waving your hand in front of it. This should make using the headlamp a bit easier with gloves during the colder months when finding the buttons can be harder with cold hands. The lamp clips to the brim of a hat and also comes with a headband.
Summary:
We found the hand wave feature works well and is very convenient, especially with gloves on or cold hands when a button can be harder to feel. Our NU11 weighs 1.3 oz / 37 g (without headband). The LOW white light is 45 lumens with a 6 hour run-time, which we found adequate for night hiking (HIGH white light is 150 lumens for 2.5 hours). The RED light is 4 lumens with a 30 hour run-time, which we found adequate for camp chores. The NU11 is USB C rechargeable. We could not find a "lock feature" to prevent the headlamp from turning on when stored in our pack, but we did not have a problem with this happening.
Although not as bright and has shorter run-times than the NU25 UL, we think the NU11 could be a good primary headlamp or a good backup light.
