🤣 that’s not even how they prepare Jamaican Pattie’s in New York though. I’m pretty sure that out of anywhere else in the world, the biggest populations of Jamaicans has always been New York City and Miami. Either way I feel like he should have done a bit more research on the food, before making a video on it. Especially considering he missed a crucial step in making the filling.

@@ttvnoodleboiIts a weird balance between being close and being a loyal customer; its like dont mix business and pleasure? It can be hard to have a personal relationship with people who you pay to feed you - its a very impersonal transaction even if you appreciate them beyond that specific interaction. Also its likely a family recipe or a personal recipe; out of respect, you don't ask for things like that from other people unless you're really close (you're not entitled to it even if they're flattered you appreciate it so much).

Miami native here - we got a lot of both here and they're different. Empanadas are more of a flaky pastry and jamaican patties are more of a chewy pastry and the jamaican seasoning is different too. Both are amazing and make me miss home because we had so many different ethnic groups and foods in miami
@nca4794

Depends which country it's coming from. Most Jamaican patties in US stores have a bad texture compared to ones in JA. Fried empanadas are crispier than JA beef patties. Baked the texture is closer, but JA patties have more seasoning and spice, and the filling is smoother. It's more like a beef paste compared what you'd find in most beef empanadas. Idk if this helped.😅

As opposed to the junk they sell in American stores, like gravy master. And let's be honest, I've never seen anyone make proper browning if they've never made it before, that is its own art form. Just get some "blue mountain country burnt sugar" and that works correctly for this and for black cake.

Even if there wasn't a bodega near me, I'd not want to go through all of that trouble. I'm sure that my supermarket would have frozen beef patties and just deal with it like that.
