I had a similar issue with that white wire on my '98 Tahoe. But I found that that specifif wire is too short and, depending on the angle of the steering wheel, the wire gets stretched and shorts out when braking. Thats been my experience with mine.

So hoping this fixes my no brakelights issue on my 1999 gmc suburban. Have replaced brakelight switch and turn signal. There is no power to back brakelights. All fuses are good.

That’s the exact same problem I found on my 99 Chevy Suburban, the white and brown were both cut. Still trying to figure out how it happened. I spliced the 2 wires and taped it up from top to bottom of that harness. Almost wonder if a mouse got in somehow and chewed the wires, got shocked and ran off. Im surprised the fuse didn’t blow out.

I have a 2006 Tahoe and I think that is my issue as well. How did you trace that pigtail to unplug it to fix the wire

The black square six pin connector is on the left side of the column and goes to the turn signal switch, it is very easy to get to. The other side connects to the brake light switch and it is very easy to take it out to check, it is all wrapped with electrical tape so just unwrap it and check. If you have a power probe just check for power coming in on the orange( it has power all the time) if it has power then check the white wire after the switch at the six pin connector. If you step on the brake and have power on the white your problem is after the switch., if you don’t it’s the harness and/or switch. It could be a lot of things, but the switch, that wiring harness and turn signal switch are most common, but anything is possible, I’ve seen mice get into some pretty tight places and do damage.
