A veteran would not pronounce it Nam. It was pronounced Nom. Ironically, the only people I’ve heard pronounce it Nam were LBJ, John McCain, and a host of non vets portraying vets, such as Don Johnson in Miami Vice. There is no such thing as the 12th Infantry Battalion. There was a 12th Infantry Regiment, part of the 199th Light Infantry Brigade. And the 12th Cavalry, part of the 1st Cavalry. But a vet would reply by division such as 1st Cav or 1st Marines, or 2nd of the 7th, which was the 2nd Battalion of the 7th Cavalry Regiment, rather than how this dialogue was written.

livardo you sound like a gamer completely ignorant of reality. There’s a reason Dale Dye has been so successful as an advisor to military filmmaking......because 99.5% of them never served! Go watch some John Wayne movies and then realize he never served in the military.
