One of the few songs where I, actually, prefer the cover version! [MetallicA's vers. for Elektra Records 40th anniv. "Rubaiyat"] -as any, real, metal historian knows: Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy" and Black Sabbath's "Symptom Of The Universe" (which appeared less than a year after the release of: Sheer Heart Attack - which is the Queen album with: "Stone Cold Crazy" on it.) are, commonly & oft spoken-of as: "thrash-metal before there was thrash-metal" and core pieces of music which influenced the early players/writers in the genre. ...the aggressive, speed-laden tempos of the songs; but, particularly: the drumming (in style) ...as well the, overall, "sharpness" and/or directed aggression [which was. AT BEST! "uncommon" in ANY musical "genre," at those times!] of those 2 songs, certainly, became touchstones as well as "guideposts" for thrash-metal, in the '80s!

This is such a great song, initially written by Roger about Martin Luther King but Roger went on vacation and when he got back, Freddie had messed with the lyrics quite a bit but Roger said was fine with the changes. There is a video called "The Making of One Vision" that you guys might enjoy either on your own time or as a reaction. It is really fun to see them all working together in the studio to make the song the best it can be. Thank you for your reactions, they were fun to watch. If you watch the making of video, you will see that at one point, Freddie was singing a Chinese take out menu as the lyrics for this song. It was fun and right in Freddie's sense of humor wheelhouse. The band decided to leave just the Fried Chicken lyric at the end. Strangely enough, once when Martin Luther King was asked what his favorite food was, he answered "Fried Chicken." Whether or not any of the band members knew this at the time of the recording, I don't know but it works with the original theme of the song.

What an amazing story. Queen, already rock legends but by 1985 were seen as past their prime and has-beens, despite having a huge hit the year before with "Radio Ga Ga," did Live Aid and gave a performance of their career. IT was so strong, they went back into the studio and while they were working on the new album, got approached to do the soundtrack to Highlander. The resulting album was fantastic and gave them enough of a comeback that they were releasing new, and very good, music all the way up until Freddie died in 1991. If he had lived, they would likely still be together and would have been able to take advantage of the huge swell of renewed interest in 80s music that came up in the early 2000s.

You guys should really consider reacting to Queen’s Live Aid concert performance. I think you’ve reacted to most of the songs individually, so you can see them performed live in front of 80,000 people in London while being simulcast to millions world wide on live TV. Queen was the highlight of the day, U2 was also great!

This is such a fun video to watch and understand. Yes, it was a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and included their own feelings about the state of the world at that time. Have no idea what they would think of the mess we are in now! Roger came with the words and then Freddie, Brian and Roger re-worked a good portion of it. John Deacon came late as he had been on holiday. When you watch the behind the scenes video of making this, you get to see a lot of fun things. Brian almost always wears clogs so you see him in his clogs. They were having trouble getting the lines into the available notes and there is a great scene of them trying to work out the meshing of lyric with the music. There are candid areas where Freddie ad libs about John Deacon and yes, they really do say "fried chicken" at the end. Throughout the time Freddie and John Deacon can be seen wearing each others shirts and John is playing drums at some point. Just an amazing song, by an amazing group and will forever be one of my favorites. I am seeing Brian, Roger and Adam Lambert in Denver on November 5th and can't wait. I saw them just before the pandemic and this is a continuation of that tour that I think is still being called the BoRap tour but if it is the same, they don't do this song, which I wish they did. Anyway, you could play Queen songs everyday and be totally blown away by the diversity in their music.

At school we usaly sang to be gradet for our exams. Everybody sang a song like 'row row row your boot' and me, seaside rendyvoux. Check out the first 3 albums you will love it. And YES I attended a live concert in 1986. Epic!!!!!!! Thank you for your reaction, enjoyed it, warm hug from a stranger from the Netherlands ❤

I was just rewatching your Barcelona reaction and when it was finished this popped up, as others have suggested you should check out the live at Wembley version it was their opening song and the crowd is jumping from the second Freddie runs onstage. In the documentary version you see them and the long creative process they went through to create this song and ... yes he said fried chicken, it was from the chinese food menu that was laying around so Freddie had a little fun changing up the lyrics. I love everything about this song 👑 Queen never disappoints.

Great reaction guys the First Time I heard this song was in the movie Iron Eagle ( you should check it out). Yes Amber heard it correctly - here's why: According to Jim Hutton, Freddie regularly made up joke lyrics when the band rehearsed. These would be in-jokes, and often filthy. Instead of ‘One Vision’ Freddie said ‘fried chicken’ as one of these throwaway jokes lines. As I remember the album lyric sheet doesn’t acknowledge this and claims the line is “one vision”, which it clearly isn’t. Again great reaction as usual as usual guys and great pic :)

@@dylancole1910 the movie is very innacurate. They were just touring around the world for the Works Tour from August 1984 up until May 1985, 2 months before Live Aid. It is true though that they were starting to feel burnt out, and that Live Aid got them motivated, but the situation wasn't as dramatic as it was in the movie.

You are so much fun to watch! Great song indeed! One Vision was made after Queen's stunning performance at Live Aid. It was mainly the audience there that gave them the energy to get back into the studio and create a song that reflected the feeling of being on stage. With MLK's words 'I Have a Dream,..' in mind, they realized they were living a dream and that their music could unite people of all kinds. Next suggestion "Hammer to Fall" LIVE or you watch the 20 minutes of Live Aid where that song is on the setlist. Then you can experience the energy yourself!

Fantastic song! After having just had one of the most iconic performances at LIVE AID they released this banger and the new album A KIND OF MAGIC. Queen was inspired to write "One Vision after their LIVE AID performance and seeing how their show and the whole concert brought people together for a common cause and how people reacted to them that day. Queen doesn't make bad music. This song is also a nod to MLK. My recommendation is that you both sit and watch the entire LIVE AID show from July 1985. AMAZING! But especially the set for Queen. They had the crowd in the palm of their hands and it brought this band back to life, showcasing the talent of this band and Freddie's vocals. No one did it as well and there were some damn good bands. If you don't know, LIVE AID was a concert being played at the same time in England's Wembley Stadium and Philadelphia's Veteran's Stadium with artists from many styles & genre's for African famine relief that was inspired by Bob Geldof's genius after the songs "Do They Know its Christmas" and "We Are the World" were so successful. Geldof felt more needed to be done and that this concert would be huge. And it was. It is an iconic moment in music history.
