Gwen has such an amazing voice, even when she was this young! No autotune needed, and the vocals are perfection!

Honestly, a lot of people you've never heard of (and never will) sing just as well as Gwen does. But I've never seen another performer move like she does on stage AND sing live vocals, nearly perfectly, at the same time without backing tracks or lip syncing. In my opinion, that stage presence/ability is what makes her truly special, not her singing voice (although she's a very talented singer of course). What she does on stage (although not so much on the tiny stage in this video) is honestly equivalent to full on marathon running or competitive gymnastics or something. I've fronted a band for many years, and even in my best shape, I could never do what she does and continue to put out record-quality vocals throughout a full show. In fact, I don't think I've ever known even one other musician who could do that. Singing well takes concentration and breath control. I don't even understand how what she does is possible.

I love how it just looks like a bunch of friends having fun. No agenda, just loving what they're doing and have created together. Glad they became mainstream so I got to know of them. Gwen will always be my biggest influence vocally, performance wise, and especially her style. The fact that she showed a little girl (me...and prob others) that you could be a strong, sexy, talented, female role model without being overly sexual....wearing full-length pants most of the time...was such a huge thing to me as a kid. Her style was just beyond...I still love it to this day.

I grew up in OC SoCal in the 90's and Punk Rock shows on Public Access were like finding a goldmine. You'd turn in every weekend at some obscure hour to catch MAYBE 30-60 minutes of some live footage or a low budget music video clip show that you'd never see on MTV. Same thing with college radio playing indie, punk, ska, etc that KROQ or any other mainstream station would only play at the same type of music at 2am because of (the recently disgraced) Rodney on the Rocks would play it.

It's true. But after booking local bands at clubs for many years, I can assure you that you'd be surprised how many "undeniable stars" there are out there who get denied stardom because the right person never sees them. Gwen is unbelievably talented and worked really really hard for many years to get where she is now. But she also got lucky. About 99/100 Gwens never do. From the interviews I've seen of her, she'd probably tell you this herself. She seems very down-to-earth and very aware that she's incredibly lucky to have been the 1/100 who got to live the life she's lived. This part of her personality is why I like her.

I've had that album since before tragic kingdom but didn't know Flea produced it; this would have been about 2 years before Blood Sugar Sex Magik made them main stream. Not surprised Angelo sang on it, early no Doubt did a lot of stuff with Fishbone and Sublime back then and Angelo has always been super chill and willing to do whatever. I ran into Angelo once at a University just chillin on a bench. I was there for a Drum Line competition for my High School and I'm assuming he was having a show there that night or something. He asked my friends and I if we had any weed (we didn't) and then sold my friend a book of his poetry and illustrations that he signed. This would have been around 91-92.

My "claim to fame" ND moment? I was out in Los Angeles June 1995. Just turned 18 on June6th. Just graduated fr HS in Kansas City. Friend&I took ride trip to California. Stayed entire month June. Anyways we went to KROQ LA rock station music fest. We went cuz Stone Temple Pilots was headlining. (Irony just saw Bush in Las Vegas on drive to LA week b4.) Anyway a band called Sublime opened up the show. They blew my mind. Just outstanding! Plus lead singer's voice???!!! Was killer. Lil did I know....Then on Sublime last song some very cute blonde girl came out to do a duo with them. It was Gwen Stefani. But anyways. That's how I was introduced to Sublime and Gwen. Seeing them in concert. Oh, and STP closed out that night. Putting everyone to shame. That's how good STP was live fr 92-2006.
