'80s and '90s kinds will be familiar with No Doubt, and their fourth studio album, 'Return of Saturn', that was launched in 2000. They were more mature, and no longer as ska or punk as they were before, featuring solid songwriting and beautiful melodies.
'Simple Kind of Life' was a standout track for me, as it seemed to tread the line between despair and hope (Gwen Stefani wrote it about her relationship with her husband at the time, Gavin Rossdale), and sounded like nothing else on the airwaves at the time.
Tony Kanal's bass playing always made an impression on me, but I feel 'Simple Kind of Life' was his best work ever. I'm definitely not able to emulate his playing exactly, but here's my own interpretation of how Kanal approached this beautiful song.
