Alternative things Skeet could've said: "Jimmy, the register isn't just a suped up calculator, it's so we can record the company's profits and track orders. While it is impressive you can calculate the order in your head, not using the register can make us lose track of what we have in our inventory. We could even get in trouble with the IRS. You didn't even give the guy a reciept, so if we got his order wrong, we can't refund his order. If you make a screw up like that again, I might have to write you up, dude. Also I didn't hear you say 'Big McThankies from McSpankies' to the customer." "Jimmy, people know that our food isn't healthy. But they don't want to be reminded of that. The McThankies slogan may be cliche, yes, but it's welcoming and gives off a relaxing environment for the customers to eat at. Your slogan borderline insults the customers for choosing to eat here and wouldn't even fly by the lowest McSpankies' representative. Listen, Jimmy, I like you, I really do, you seem like a nice kid. But if you insist on complicating your job, we might have to fire you."

If straight up mindless entities (which only have a willpower manifested in them by powerful spellcasters) have scores of 1 in those stats, then one could reason that a 0 would mean the stat is completely inert (in fact, some would say a 0 in any score means the creature is outright dead). Skeet: "Dude, you're supposed to push the buttons with pictures of food on em." Jimmy: "Don't need to, Skeet! I memorized the prices and did the tax and change in my head!" Skeet: "No dude, we both know that you are smart enough to do this but the register doesn't just exist to get prices and change accurately. Putting the order into the register allows the cooks working in the back to know what they need to make. The record also keeps track of how much inventory we should have and how much money should be in the register when we do a cash pull, which is to say when we take excess money out the register to put in the safe where it is harder for a robber to steal it while making sure that the register still has enough in it to hand out proper change. This allows our data to stay up-to-date and accurate as well as provide a layer of security to make sure that none of our employees are trying to steal from the store, something that would become impossible to track without using the register properly. It also allows information on how well different meals and sides are selling to corporate so that they have more information to plan promotions and advertisements around, as well as general information for the company going forward. The records also allow us to know how much money we need to pay the IRS, as well as keeps the IRS content and able to say that we are paying our proper taxes. In addition, the average customer likely knows nothing about you and has no reason to trust in your abilities so entering their order into the register and giving them a proper recite which allows them to be confident that they were charged correctly and received the amount of change they were suppose to. This recite also acts as proof that they ordered and paid for the meal, which allows us to act properly and confidently in the event of a problem brought up by the customer on their meal. You don't need to try to prove how smart you are as everyone close to you already is fully aware of it. Please keep in mind that the systems you are bypassing to show off are there for a reason, and the entire system is built around them. Hyper Intelligence is of no use if you don't apply it properly. Please don't let me see you making this mistake again, you are a good guy and I want you to have a good job here but I can only do so much if you ignore such basic and proper procedures because you falsely believe yourself above them."

"Please put your pride aside and do your job correctly." Honestly Skeet kinda solved the whole series with that one line alone. Jimmy had an obsession with fixing whatever he perceived as "problems" within his life or the life of others, and mostly for the satisfaction of saying he was the one who solved it rather than just for the benefit of his community or even the world at large. And almost every one of Jim's fixes is the catalyst for that episode's problem or antagonistic force, some of them so severe that they even threaten the very fabric of their reality and the lives of those around him.

I feel this. When I watched this show as a kid, Jimmy Neutron always bothered me with his unending hubris. His unerring ability to endanger the people around him wasn't very fun to me after a few episodes. I feel like it's the ethos of children's television to show how childish immaturity creates problems, which then the solution is blind admission to the wisdom of adults. It touches on the fundamental value of humility, but only ever in the context a child's limited and protected world. I wish I could connect with it, but my experience has been far more complicated. The real problems you face in life are almost always greater than yourself. Greater than your parents and any adult for that matter. Problems of _adult_ immaturity for which there is no simple, prescriptive wisdom to adhere to.
@lightningbolt4419

I think it ties into a deeper philosophical question about humanity. Every time we try to “progress” we end up making more and more problems that we will then solve but at an even greater cost, only time will tell whether we learn from this or we go extinct, and right now it’s looking like it will be the latter.

Skeet: *sigh* "Dude, you're supposed to push the buttons with pictures of food on em…" Jimmy: "Don't need to, Skeet! Hyper Intelligence is of no use if you don’t apply it properly. Please don’t let me see you making this mistake again, you are a good guy and I want you to have a good job here but I can only do so much if you ignore such basic and proper procedures because you falsely believe yourself above them."

You may have memorized the menu prices, and you may be good at mental math, but I seriously doubt you can memorize an entire day's worth of transactions. Even if you can, we don't work on an honor system. Aside from keeping our inventory up to date, you are also handling money. Do you want to be the subject of an embezzlement investigation? No? As a former fast food employee, he should've used the register to complete the full transaction. If that customer gets their meal wrong from the cook's mistake and asks for a refund, you'd have no receipt to keep record of how much you owe. In addition, not putting it into the system would mean the chefs do even know that a customer ordered. For the most part, the cooks don't look towards the front and see how many customers there are, they just focus on getting food out as quick as they can. The system will automatically put each meal ticket in the correct order and can be used to mark which items still need to be made. Even if Jimmy went back and told the cooks what was needed, they wouldn't be able to make it immediately, and there would be a high chance they forget the exact order. Where I worked the paycheck would remain the same, but if the mistake is made again Jimmy would be fired.

Skeet: "You're supposed to push the buttons with food on em!" Jimmy: "Dont need to, Skeet! I memorized the prices and did the tax and change in my head!" Skeet: "no dude. You have to press the buttons with the pictures of food on them so that the restaurant is able to keep track of inventory and sales through our POS. As a matter of fact, the transaction that you just did incorrectly is going to cause me to do extra paperwork to make sure that we are keeping track of our sales and inventory accurately. Along with that, the customer didn't end up getting the receipt, so we are unable to give a refund in case one of the cooks weren't following proper protocol with creating the meal. In fact, the only way we have to confirm that the transaction even happened is through your own word, which is inconvenient for everybody else. There is also the chance that you could've given the incorrect change, or even intentionally gave some people a lower price for their food. I understand that it is convenient for you to use your intellect to process these transactions, but you have to follow the proper protocol along with the rest of our employees. I am going to be lenient with you just this once, but next time you need to follow proper protocol when doing your job, Mister Magic Man."

Worked at a Wendy’s when I was in high school, if you don’t put the order in the system then the sandwich makers literally won’t know what to make. You would have to tell them directly, which I don’t think I have to say what a waste of time that would be. Jimmy using this method honestly puts the entire restaurant into chaos. Makers on the line won’t know what kind of burger to make, customers won’t have a receipt, managers won’t have proper inventory, and when Jimmy cashes his register out, his total will be completely off, leaving it up to his own word that he didn’t steal anything. Crazy how the boy “genius” doesn’t understand this.

Jimmy: What do you think about this? Don't let our food be denied you, put polyunsaturated fats and triglycerides inside you! Skeet: No dude. That slogan has been a staple of this company for years, and you just replacing it like with what you said is gonna confuse and disappoint the customer. You have to understand how brand recognition works, dude. If you're gonna replace the slogan of a company, you have to not make it sudden, and make it still an actually good slogan, dude. You either make it similar, or even better, not having the new slogan at all. Me, everyone else working here, and the customers probably would've been okay with that slogan if it wasn't confusing and even insulting to the customers, dude. You can't just list out the facts like that. I get it, you're smart and all, but that doesn't mean there aren't things that I know that you don't know that I do. You can't just say that this is not really the best food in town, dude. You have to realize that customers either come here because they don't have the time or the money to get better food. We know this food is unhealthy, the customers know this food is unhealthy, but you don't have to say that it has high fat content out loud, dude. And plus, using big words like polyunsaturated fats and triglycerides does not make you seem smarter. I get it, kids will think you're smart because of words they don't understand, but here's the thing dude, they don't understand. When you put it in the grand scheme of things, you're just overcomplicating things about what this food is actually like. I think this job is too complicated for you, dude. Try mopping the floors instead. It should be much easier for you, dude. Jimmy: Oh! Just a little sodium chloride! Skeet" No dude, it's salt- Jimmy: That's what I said! Sodium chloride! Skeet: No dude, this is iodized table salt, which in addition to sodium chloride contains potassium iodide and anticaking agents, which is added to prevent iodine deficiency in the body, so not only are you being overly pretentious by insisting on using scientific terminology, for everyday items, you are factually wrong. Your arrogance is your downfall, dude. You have to understand that using big words either without scientific proof, or for no rhyme or reason does not make you seem smarter. In fact, using big words like that ironically makes you seem less smart because it looks like you're pretending to seem smart by saying stuff you don't know, dude. When you said you thought the famous slogan was cliched, I knew that the only thing more cliched than the slogan is your character. You're just that typical "smart kid" character with no real depth. You make inventions and stuff, but no one could possibly care less, dude. In fact, no one even cares about how smart you are. Even if that was sodium chloride AKA normal salt, you wouldn't even have had to say that because everyone knows that you're a boy genius and all, but you can't just show it off by saying big words like that, dude. Like I said before, nobody cares how smart you are. You have to understand that when doing easy jobs like mopping the floors of a fast food restaurant, you don't have to make thing super complicated. I would tell you to go outside in that burger costume outside the restaurant and advertise the place, but no, dude. You’re fired. Get out of here. No Mc Thankies from Mc Spankies.

As a kid I hated his character, now I actually see where he's coming from, also he's not wrong about working in a business. He's not dissing Jimmy, he's actually giving him advice, when working in a business, the higherups/company doesn't give a shit how smart you are. They've been running a business for as Skeet say mid 1980's (my guess is that this series is placed in the early 2000's) meaning that slogan has been their staple little under 20 years. It's basically the same as "finger lickin' good" from KFC and "I'm lovin' it" from McDonalds. Customers recognize it and if they hear it are going to immediately associate it with the respected restaurants. Also Skeet is correct, Jimmy has to put the money inside the cash register in order to record how much money has been earned, in order to avoid cash register shortages. If anything lying or even putting the wrong amount can cause legal issues and/or result in termination of a job. The music that plays when Skeet makes his last refutation towards Jimmy is what makes this scene all the more beautiful and impactful. Jimmy clearly has never been knocked down so hard from his own ego that he desperately tries to make arguments trying to invalidate Skeet's good hearted and constructive criticism. Skeet could have easily screamed to Jimmy, cut off the payout for his wages, or ordered him to clean the bathrooms for committing the serious crime of tax fraud which may as well have ended up putting Skeet himself on serious trouble, but Skeet, being the wise and compassionate leader that he is, maintains his calm, and completely refutes all of Jimmy's arguments based on faux "intelligence" and delusions with ease. That last piece of music couldn't make the message clearer. Jimmy is totally humiliated by losing the arguments of logic against the far more wise Skeet, seeing that Jimmy's entirely personality is based off of showing how "genius" he is. But now, it is all Jimmy's choice, Jimmy can either walk the path of redemption and realize that his obnoxious behavior is not a healthy way of living, he could put his gifted and quick thinking brain into good causes at the right times, or he could just keep his old ways of causing problems for others, delving in self hatred and false self esteem that will never grant him true happiness.
