I nearly drove myself nuts trying to replicate this over the weekend. After many failed attempts, I just happened to switch to counterclockwise rather than clockwise. Suddenly, it was so simple. Really surprised me that I would have that much difference going one way vs. the other.

I was in a band for almost a year, and my lead guitarist showed me how to roll up speaker cables this same exact way. He said it put way less strain on them. Little did I know he accidentally taught me how to correctly roll up hoses as well!! Lol!! Thanks Kris!

I learned how to roll hoses like this many years ago on a construction site. They called it a fireman's roll. But I have never seen a fireman use a round hose. They always use a flat fabric hose that won't catch fire or melt. I shared your video with some RVers. Hopefully they'll get some use out of it too. Very good demonstration and good video. Do you know if this method of rolling a hose has a name?

The donut roll or straight hose rolling methods are most commonly used by firemen around here In tennessee. I’m guessing it is an inversion. Of those two methods but it helps i don’t think it has an accurate discription of the roll shown here

A sailor pointed out to me that this method could lead to an unwanted clove hitch binding on something caught in the middle (and pulling it overboard). Nevertheless, this is how I store most hoses and cables. I feel for all of you struggling to learn this. Tried showing an employee, and they just couldn't grasp the mechanics. Naturally I had others do the coiling from then on.

Thank you for the video. I work at a garden center where other people role the hose in a very long oval. To pick that hose up and move it somewhere it tangles greatly. I was taught to stand feet wide apart using that width for the circle size. This seems to work very well. I will try this method at work. Thank you

You'll find that you have to undo the twist, either by laying the whole hose straight ahead of time, or backtwisting as you work from a conventionally coiled hose.
