Hi all, some of you are asking about whether NoMachine software can be used to connect across the net as well as the LAN. All NoMachine software (regardless of the edition) lets you connect on LAN, and if you enable port-forwarding, you can also connect over the net. So an IP address is necessary. For users who want to connect to a computer even if they don’t know its IP address, or maybe it doesn't have a public one, or sits behind a NAT/firewall, then watch out for NoMachine Network in version 9 🙂

RDP server on Linux is possible. There is a XRDP for Linux. You then use Windows RDP client or Linux RDP client (xfreerdp for example) to connect to Linux. It uses the same protocol as RDP. It also support server side GPU encoding as well.

After using logmein (which iirc started as proprietary but free and then began demanding money, like 10 years ago) I don't trust anything proprietary anymore except for drivers. This should by now be a basic feature of any pc, and it should be easy, and it should be reasonably secure.

How I like to use remote access software like remote ripple ( I will try no machine as well as it looks very nice and polished) is together with zero tier as it makes virtual LAN network witch is highly encrypted and safe and as long as my remote pc from different places are connected to it software see them like in same LAN network and works without need to use any public ips or opening any ports.

@DSTechMedia
3 ай бұрын
Yes I do believe you would have to forward ports to use this across the wide web. People have suggested solutions that work via web browsers, but in those cases I would assume all of the communication is going out over the web ports. I didn't really touch on port forwarding in the video because it's kind of its own topic. I don't always feel comfortable recommending that people forward ports because there are genuine security considerations.

This is definitely a great piece of software. However, since 70% of the target market of Remote Desktop softwares is intended fo remote assistance, the host client needs to be simple and easy to setup and run by the other party that needs assistance. In my opinion NoMachine is great for experienced users that needs it to remotely control their own devices.

So the reason for that is likely due to port-forwarding. Your router needs to be configured to forward traffic to the particular computer and port. I guess i should have mentioned that but i also don't like to recommend people do it because there are security considerations.
