You missed a lot about the game if you ignored the Quest The Artemis Quest and the other "story quests" provide some pretty critical components to the game amd expand your options significantly and adds a goal to your gameplay (reaching the center, discovering the atlas and so on) The combat wasn't great before the update, but there was a variety of weapones, and a bunch of enemies to be encountered.

It doesn't actually exist until you play it though, so although it sounds like a huge amount of 'data' or areas 'in the game' , it's actually just the result of an algorithm which creates the content based on a load of parameters which are (for the most part) randomised, and as such doesn't exist until it's generated. It's still awesome though how procedural generation can be used to create almost infinite levels of randomness.

This game is a bit of a jack of all trades. It’s got a story, base building, settlement management, pets, cooking, archeology, bounty hunting, base building, ground and air combat, dungeon crawling, missions and trading, survival gameplay, a music maker, farming, exploration and categorisation of flora and fauna, rich solo and multiplayer experiences and probably lots more I can’t think of. All in a massive and relatively varied universe that you can never know what it’ll throw you next. It’s a role playing game that lets the player roleplay however they want

The biggest downside for me in this game are the building limitations. I suppose I understand why each base can only contain about 3,000 pieces but there is a 20,000 piece total limit, per save file, and that really kills a lot of joy, for me. I wish they'd focus on increasing the limitation, at least for the amount you can build per save.

@@sixstrings2 it’s standard across the board but I’m sure it’s to cater to certain platforms. My ps4 pro practically hovers when I’m in certain environments or weather. To a certain extent you can build very large bases but after a certain point can’t upload/share them as they cross the base item limit. I do hope they can increase the overall bases/assets as I don’t think this is as taxing on peoples systems and is just meant to help stave off run away save file sizes.

Good review. The only things I disagree with are 1. That there is no goal. Yes there is, there is the main story of the game which is Atlas path, or to reach the center of the galaxy. Whether or not to continue playing after that is up to the player but ultimately it can be considered the ending for the game. 2. That you need to refuel your take off fuel all the time. No, you don't have to, in time you install an upgrade(or buy a starship that has that upgrade, in fact most starships have them) that refuels it automatically so you don't have to do this. As for Warp Drive which allows you to travel between the star systems - yes, you need to refuel it indeed.

1:35 "...lifeforms are procedurally generated, too. So, the life you'll encounter is also never the same." I haven't played the game in a year or so. Maybe more. I remember what I got bored of was that even with procedural generation, a lot of planets, flora and fauna felt the same-y. I instantly knew where to look for certain creatures, in the water, to scan them, because I knew by their shape and appearance, they could be found in the same place, on every planet and they all looked pretty much the same, with barely any "mutations." And the whole thrill of discovery, descending into a new planet's atmosphere and finding a landing spot, lost it luster, because even when a planet was unnamed, undiscovered, it already had some outpost and abandoned stuff on it, the same thing, every time, which meant that you, in fact, weren't the first to discover it. So, there was really very little sense of discovery, once you played enough to see all these patterns and repetitions. Has that changed?
@31codyskater
2 жыл бұрын
yes by a ton in fact and while if you play for long enough you will start to see some repeat patterns it will take quite a few hours. the game gets major content overhauls every couple months and they are not small by any means and some of those have been to improve the diversity of the environments and wildlife. it also has things like land vehicles like buggies and submarines, giant ships that work like a mobile base, lot's of quest lines to follow and tons of new types of ships to collect that can range anything from fighters to cargo ships to living ships. just try and follow the main quest till you get to the main player hub cause lots of features get unlocked there and along the way for almost anything you want to do.

Im late to the party with NMS, and it would be true to say that this is not the type of game id usually play. Having downloaded the ps5 version, I can simply say its one of the most captivating, beautiful games ive ever played. If you have an interest in the universe and its wonderment, this is the game for you! I started playing it in relaxed mode, as it gave me a chance to learn the crafting/resource mining etc. Its quite a learning curve at first but once you get used to it it becomes clear. What I love about this game is the massive (and i mean massive) scope to explore galaxies and planets. What NMS does very well is capture the true vastness of space - its a very ambient and relaxing game to play. I often pick it up and play for a few hours just to switch off and decompress. The different worlds all have their unique atmosphere, hostilities and wildlife waiting for you to discover. Building bases on your world is fun also. Its a 9.5 out of 10 for me. A hidden gem of a game that perhaps only some will appreciate, but its a true work of art.

Honestly, the devs did an amazing job of taking a game that initially started as a shit show, with all it's bugs, lack of features, flat out lies.......and turned it into a great game. Tons of free massive updates that are still being released to this day, tons of community requested features, better graphics, all kinds of stuff. Like, No Man's Sky may have started off horribly, but it's a legitimately good game now. I enjoy Elite Dangerous a lot, but No Man's Sky is what I play when I want something a bit simpler with some Minecraft tossed in. Though I'll admit, one of the best features of the game, the sheer amount of planets to explore, is also an issue for me. As cool as it is, it'd be even more fun if you actually had a better chance of coming across other players and their planets. Like, I've seen people claim that they've been playing since release, and have only found a couple planets that other people have been to.
@ViryaDharmawanVGE

Well, it's a big world. Lots of systems, 255 galaxies, and different from E:D that make you start at the same place (Eravate, Dromi), NMS spawns you randomly on galaxy 1. Very unlikely to meet anyone. However, I myself has found about 6 systems in 100 hours of play so I guess your mileage may vary
@TXFDA
2 жыл бұрын
@@ViryaDharmawanVGE I get that. And like I said, it's definitely one of it's best features. It lends a lot to the community, being able to map the game in real time with other players and stuff. But, I dunno. It's essentially a massive MMO where you're unlikely to actually find other players, or places other players have been. Like, imagine playing WoW or Elder Scrolls Online, and the only time you actually see other players is in a small hub area. On one hand, it's amazing, and super fun to explore a completely new unexplored part of the game. It gives you a real sense of discovery, a sense of "No one else has ever seen this specific planet or this specific part of space, or this specific ship crash." But, by doing it that way, it also makes the ONLINE portion of it...not really there. I think I've only come across 1 system that someone else found in my time playing. The only time I actually see other players is when I'm in the hub area. I almost wish the game started you in a common part of space like Elite does, but then after some play time, you unlock the ability to teleport farther away in any direction you want. So at least the start of the game would be filled with players and pre-discovered areas, and you could come back later to mess around with other people.

I've played NMS on and off for several years and have over 300 hours in the game. I'm still upgrading stuff and still haven't unlocked some stuff like the living ship but that's by choice, I kind of never want to "finish" it. Each update every few months adds something new to unlock so there's tons to do. I've built bases with farms, built a massive fleet of ships and have a max rank freighter. You can set yourself various goals and spend hours on them, like finding new ships and multitools, hunting for that perfect planet or companion (yes you can have pets!) or just working towards an endgame upgrade. I'm rich beyond my wildest dreams and don't have to grind for anything anymore. Value for money if you go by hours played per pound, it's incredible. Creativity and exploration being the main factors of the game and you could literally play it forever. There are actually an unlimited number of missions in the game as you can pick them up from space stations or the anomaly (some of which offer special rewards) after you finish the main story, which I'd recommend doing first as you unlock stuff along the way and it is kind of a tutorial. The community in the game is unique as in they are actually really nice and supportive, you'll probably be gifted millions just visiting the multiplayer hub. There are subreddits that regularly share locations of ships, multitools and any advice or help you may need. It's something else. Honestly one of my favourite games in over 30 years of gaming. It's simply amazing. Did I mention I truly love this game?

I've been playing since the game exists, and I loved it immediately. Even when all those people who weren't following the game developpement and were waiting for a multiplayer mode so they were sending death threats to Sean Murray to show their love. I don't know what they were expecting. He said it wasn't multiplayer. He said you could try to reach the center of the galaxy if you want a goal, but I was aware that it simply was a beautiful contemplative game with a unique vibe even before buying, so I don't understand this shitstorm. Some elements couldn't get implemented when the game came out like online sync and giant worms, but most of what was told and shown was in the game at launch. With the NEXT update, it became a totally different game, and I totally lost the feeling I had before. I stopped playing for years. But a few weeks ago, I gave the game a second chance, and it's much better than it was when NEXT came out. It's not the same game that it was art launch, and lost a big part of its soul, but even if I bought a contemplative exploration game that I loved, it became a completely different game, but it's now a very great survival and crafting game. My only regret is that the multiplayer and the 3rd person view totally ruins the story and the immersion. Sorry if I ruined the English language, even if I tried not to do so.

The simple "explore, discover and look" way of playing as when the game came out isn't possible anymore : there is a lot of crafting, survival, combat and trade you didn't need before. I love the game as it is now, but I also loved the game when it was another game. Maybe even more. Before, it had more of subnautica, now it's a mix between Star Citizen, Minecraft and Slime Rancher

As someone who plays sea of thieves that doesn’t really have an overall aim other than cosmetics but is still fun. I think no mans sky would be good, but an aim is always nice when u get bored.

NMS is very impressive and there is a lot to love about it. But for me, even though there are billions of planets to explore, it still feels like there is no more than 5-7 different types planetary environments, the repeatition of scenery and actions is very apparent. I play NMS in VR because it really is the best way to enjoy the beauty and scale of the game, but after a few weeks I get bored and don't play it for a good few months before coming back. I really do wish they included a narrative and story to follow, one that actually leads somewhere.

I don't wanna spoil it but the lore is very deep and the realization of who and what you really are in this universe is profound, and really makes you think about actual reality. There are scraps and tidbits of lore everywhere. You get bits from finding abandoned buildings, alien relics and data archives to speaking with NPC characters and even God themselves.

It may be six years old but I just got a new survival game called ark survival evolved on switch. And despite being new it's not nearly as sophisticated in most respects as this 6-year-old game. (In case you don't know what I'm talking about I doubt Ark's on all the consoles yet I think it might be a switch exclusive even but it's pretty cool.) Anyways I think that it's still trailing this game once you get used to it in many respects. I can't wait to play another one that I believe comes out on Christmas called Minecraft. It looks like it's going to be awesome it's like oversimplified yet much more building centric than these games. If you don't know what I'm talking about it's probably cuz it's still a couple years away on your platform. One of the benefits you get from buying Nintendo I guess. But once you guys are in the know I can't wait to hear the reactions. Go switch! Bow b4 my nexgen gaming power!..... Not to keep bragging but I actually have the OLED which is pretty much like the switch pro and even further dwarfs your puny playstation and Xboxes.

I have been playing this game since its release and have always enjoyed it. I had no preconceived ideas on what it was purported to be so there was no disappointment. The game has been so much improved over the years that it is way past what the initial hype proclaimed. That being said I have one big issue with it. I have become an avid builder and enjoy the almost infinite creative possibilities. The problem comes when in multi-player. The base rendering is not working as advertised. When someone visits your base, they will most likely not see a good portion of it and not be able to see it as you planned. Hello Games has been very generous in giving us updates for no additional cost but I really would rather they just finished this game. I mean get it running glitch free as it is and then I would gladly pay a bit more for an update or new feature. Its very disheartening when you spend many hours building something you're proud of just to be able to show people still photos. I believe the building aspect of this game has become a motivating force for some and has morphed into something far in excess of what HG expected. So I still love the game and will keep building but it would be great if HG just finished it so players could enjoy touring other bases.

So i do genuinely thank you for the video and the work behind it, but the audio SERIOUSLY needs to be raised to be at least somewhat relative to other KZitem videos (or else our ears will be blasted by a surprise advertisement, or by any other video we watch immediately afterwards).

Okay two questions..maybe three. 1. Can you play and enjoy without crafting- building bases a d just explore? If you build something and leave a planet..how do you re- find what you created and on what planet you left? I'm a bit confused considering so so many planets why build upon a planet you are going to leave? Great video. Please be gentle with any helpful feedback 👍 2. Ive seen the new PS5 version $75 Aus and an Xbox Vetsion Different Cover for $40. I have no idea what the difference is, DLC's?
@AverageGameReviews
Жыл бұрын
Hey there! Glad you liked the video! Absolutely no difference between any versions of the game - all the updates and DLC is free. This includes the update to next gen versions of the game too! You can play the game in creative mode which removes the need to craft or aquire the blueprints for anything before building it. In my opinion this takes away a lot of the fun as once you get used to it the crafting and 'survival' is fun and rewarding. You can only build on a planet if you place something called a 'base computer' . This marks the land as yours, so where it is will always be on record. You can also build teleporters here very easily. Therefore it will come up as a destination to teleport to! Hope this helps - do let me know if there's anything else you'd like to know or want explaining further. I am very happy to do so! :)

Aren't there only like 30 people total working on this? It's amazing what they've done with it, even if a lot of the updates are cosmetic and don't really overhaul or add any new in-depth mechanics. Like the latest "Outlaws" update, where you can be a pirate ostensibly. The game was and will never be about shooting. the game is a Survival explore game. it won't be worth it for the Dev team to make such a big investment in something they said the game never would be. it isn't like World of Warcraft where you got a subscribtion. they run out of money for the project at some point or another. or they don't think it can improved more. if you stray too much from what was originally intended you will lose players too.

There have been many comparisons between NMS and the upcoming Bethesda game Starfield. After watching only one third this video, it's already apparent that NMS and Starfield are related only in their theme of space exploration. There is no voice acting, no real story (or many different quests), no truly unique and iconic places (ie. Akila City, New Atlantis, Neon), no characters that feel 'real' or have a personality or a unique, identifiable personality / traits / aspirations and dreams. You don't even seem to be able to customize your ship, to go inside and tour the layout of your ride, staff it with crewmembers, and so on. In short, it is not a roleplaying game, it's more like space minecraft / space fortnite.

An infinite universe of completely random cosmetic differences. Sounds just as repetitive as Minecraft. Whatever color it is, a dirt block is a dirt block and stone is stone.
