Colt FCE would be interesting comparison also, they have a clean exit hole (but sadly no longer)

Looking for the right bit to drill 3/4" holes through 6"-8" logs (fence posts) in a light production setting without getting tear out on the back, and not having to back drill. Overdrive bit with extension and peck drill as needed?

Do you see similar results from the Tri-Cut wood owl bits? I dont use a lot of plywood, and am mostly a furniture maker. I was planning on buying a set of those soon, I specifically need a 3/4 in one to drill through a laminated robou workbench top I made. Do you reccomend a set of these OverDrive bits over the Tri-Cut for general hardwood furniture building?

I use Tri-Cuts in my brace and Overdrives in my cordless. I notice I seem to use the overdrives more often...both do a nice job, although with the tri-cuts I drill until the worm pokes through and then come from that side, as one would with a Forstner.

My only complaint that these bits can't latch into an impact driver, or I would have more of these. None of Japanese bits seems to latch in an impact driver, their "waist" is about twice the distance from a bit's end than on regular bits.

What makes overdrive bits special? I can't tell by looking at the bits what allows them this vodoo.

It's like a forstner bit, except it doesn't have the outside spurs. Instead it has a slight chamfer that allows it to cut aggressively with little-to-no tearout.
