I work at an FFL dealer in the DFW metroplex. We took in one of your custom guns on a transfer………….absolutely amazing craftsmanship with the fit and finish. We regularly get Cabot’s, Stacatos, Custom Prodigy’s, Stealth Arms and others frequently. Yours was a step above the best of them. Not to mention the grip stippling literally felt like it was Velcro to your hand. This video let me and my work colleagues see a glimpse of your process and your attention to detail. Thank you for the inside look of how a truly exceptional firearm is crafted.

The fact that the best custom 1911 builders have a KZitem channel where they explain their entire process for free is pretty amazing.

Been looking for my one high end pistol. This video really tilts me your way. Skips Guns introduced me to your shop on a recent video. I was looking at Atlas, Vudoo and this really has me curios as to what can be done for my 'one gun'. Thanks for making this video! P.S. I just saw that Skips reply to this thread 3 months ago.

If you didnt have a mill would you remove material the same way you did the final thousandth?
@HayesCustomGuns
Ай бұрын
@@mikef1949 it would depend on how much material needed to be removed. Not all brands have the same dimensions. I may try to make a video with alternative methods for fitting a slide/frame.

@@HayesCustomGuns Let me first start by saying thank you for the response. Second that your work is absolutely incredible and one of the main reasons I decided I want to take a shot at building my own. I've watched this video in full at least 5 times now in preparation for my parts arriving. I would love to see a similar video but with less speed ups and more detailed commentary. Basically a video with this quality but in full detail start to finish would be legendary and something I would pay for. Theres several things you glossed over understandable for time sake but a long formant even several hours video of you doing things step by step commenting through out would be awesome. Also going over more in depth about the tools you use and also tools that could substitute if you dont have a mill. I'm literally purchasing the tools I need right now and would love something like that to reference. I'm using an atlas slide and cheely frame I dont think I will need to remove tons of material but probably more than a couple thou. I think Im going to use a rail sanding jig and various grit stones. I noticed you were using emery paper over a stone and not the stone itself. any reason for that? Seriously thanks so much for the response and videos it super helpful.

Just curious about the process. Do you think it’s important to fit the grip first before fitting frame to slide? The reason I ask, I had the slide to frame fitted and when the grip was installed, the slide was pinched.

Wish Staccato realized that quality parts alone do not make for a superior Trigger group. simply dropping in EDM'd components is NOT a decent trigger job. Mine is pitiful! One supposed smith tried to tell me that EDM'd parts were perfect and no fitting is required which proved to me that Skippy has no idea what he is doing. (Actually called the rifling in the bore threading. WTF)??? He makes tons of vid's of his supposed work but never shows one minute of actual work. Kinda wonder who is actually doing the work! KnifeMaker/Retired after over 47+ years in the Craft.

What types of files/grit do you recommend for fine work on pistols? Would like to use some older pieces i have to practice refining slide smoothness. Thanks for your help

The files I use are pretty basic. For most filing, an 8 inch mill bastard file is what I use. A 6 inch three square file is also handy.
