Leaving the top of trees sticking out as hazzards, and chemicals from lead paint and rusting metal debris leaking into the water. There have been 700 deaths. To add to this reservior's horrifying nature, there are 20 cemetaries. Most of the bodies where not relocated because people where forced out of their homes with violence to make way for it. TBH…good. This is better than making 16 year old lifeguards conduct body sweeps in the water every time someone’s 4 year old wanders off. Do you know how many times growing up I’d feel someone’s left behind wife beater in the water and think I’d just found someone’s kid? You’d think people were doing laundry there at night. It scares you half to death every time. Not to mention those poor teens who pulled that father and son out a few years back. That was tragic. I can’t imagine how traumatic that was :( The beach/open water isn’t covered by lifeguards (with few exceptions) and clearly signage wasn’t working. I hope people listen and don’t swim past it. It looks like it’s would be difficult to retrieve someone beyond the fence. I get it. The fence is annoying, but it’s necessary. We all know lake Lanier takes lives. If you’re that interested in just swimming in open water, unguarded, go to a state park with beach access or something.

Lake Lanier was built over multiple black towns. It has been tested and confirmed to be the most polluted body of water in Georgia. The debris from buildings and trees were never cleared. So on top of all the other polutants I've mentioned you can add embalming fluids and rotting corpses to the list. The history alone should be enough to make nobody of sane mind want to be there. This reservior has killed hundreds of people and is terribly polluted on top of that. Nobody should be complaining about this.

It's because they were sued by a family who lost a loved on at the Beach Park. To avoid a huge jump in Insurance Cost they agreed to not allow swimming at the Beach

Maybe because someone mysteriously got electrocuted and died there has something to do with it while swimming and it still remains a mystery

It’s man made and plus lake Lanier wasn’t made for the purpose of recreation and fun. It was made to provide water in case of drought like back in 2008. There is a whole town down there and when they made the lake they didn’t bother to tear down all the buildings. They simply chopped off the top half of trees plus there are stadium bleachers still standing under there.

Its a reservoir! They made it by flooding buildings, trees, rocks, and a cemetary! Of course its going to be dangerous!
