Just my 2 cents: put a little bit of lithium grease (or air filter grease from K&N) on the gray plastic surface area where the filter makes contact to have a better sealing

Tests have shown the dome style filters limit the charge area above the element and actually hurt power. The air box cover can be modified to increase charge volume. I modified my stock flame arrestor screen with a dremel to make it essentially the same as the aftermarket ones. Then I just use the Twin Air filters that come with the grommet that locks the filter element onto the little nipple that protrudes out the middle of the hold down cage. With PJ1s "bubble gum" spray, I call it, used liberally. I've had great results. Saved some cash too!

That's a tough question. It can be a good bike for a wide range of skill levels but it's not really built for going slow. It really depends on how quickly you learn new skills. If you've never ridden before at all it might be better to pick up a nice 230 trail bike, learn the basics and then move on to a 250FX a little later. However, I have seen new riders with natural talent that don't need a starter bike at all. Thanks for watching and good luck!

Thanks for watching! The YZ250FX has way more power than I can use in the woods. I’ve never found a situation where I thought I needed more power. I’m 175 lbs without gear. The 250xcf is a great bike too. The only thing that would steer me away from it is the air forks.

Hi Donnie. Another question for you. I have read some people having issues with the filter on this kit being a bit big on the Yamahas, interfering with the air box cover (not sealing well and allowing water to get in from what was noted in a forum). I had seen that you stated not having issues and did the same mod to your 2023. Just wanted some feedback from somebody that has the same bike as me. Thank you.

I’ve never had any issue with the no toil filters. It would have to be installed incorrectly to interfere with the airbox cover. 2 bikes and over 200 hours with this setup. Remember, anyone can comment online, regardless of knowledge & experience

Hi Donnie. So I installed this kit on my YZ 250 FX. After doing so I appear to have failed two plugs already in about six hours of riding time. I am not sure if it’s just coincidental but have read a claim of someone else experiencing the same thing and After going back to the stock set up, not having the fouling issue. With that said, I may also be over oiling the air filter but the oil is not dripping off the filter itself. With your experience, using this set up, have you had any fowling issues that you had to make other adjustments for? Thank you.

JIS screwdrivers will get the best grip. An impact screwdriver will get stubborn screws out as well. These really shouldn’t be that tight though. Try putting some turning force on the screwdriver with one hand and tap the top of the screwdriver with a small hammer with the other hand. amzn.to/3o0eQLR

I think it's sufficient, but not great. I took the filter of my wife's 21' 250FX because I wasn't happy about the filter oiling from the dealer. I ran a light coat of a thin grease on the sealing portion of the filter. Just to help seal, and if it does lose seal I can see where the first entered.
