This interview forms part of a series of #UrbanPoorDiaries by Justice & Empowerment Initiatives (www.justempower.org) and the Media4Change Team of the Nigerian Slum / Informal Settlement Federation which seeks to understand and amplify the perspectives and experiences of urban poor residents on the Naira scarcity in Nigeria.
Slum dwellers in Nigeria are facing a new challenge: no cash to buy food to eat or make other purchases with. This is because of the scarcity of redesigned Naira notes -- a failed effort of the Center Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to force a cash-dependent economy to be cashless overnight. Banks have no money for customers to withdraw. Mobile transfer networks constantly fail. This has made life more difficult for the urban poor.
