It's even more deeperer than that! Lupin III was created when Monkey Punch wanted to write about the Gentleman thief and noted French literary character Arsene Lupin. He got rejected, and so made his own, totally original character (do not steal), Arsene Lupin III. Japanese copyright was lax enough that he could get away with that, but Europe, America, etc. took issue with that, so the character was renamed for most of it's early life abroad. "Rupin", "Rupon", and, when the import studio was feeling particularly lazy, "Wolf".

@NickJerrison
2 жыл бұрын
I feel like Lupin the 3rd: The First is a great contestant for that though. Since Miyazaki is largely responsible for a lot of anime Lupin's DNA we get such iconic "Ghibli" footprints like the wacky run and just overall tone and art style. And to think that that one CGI Ghibli movie came out a year after that...

Um, no. We've literally had a Ghibli 3D movie. Do your research
@A_E_A_U_I_O
2 жыл бұрын
@@NickJerrison yes, absolutely. But in Lupin, it was kind of necessary to capture the Ghibli/Lupin style. If you make a 3D Lupin movie, you logically have to adapt Lupin in 3D. And they did, the movie looks Great. So I would say that Lupin III the First it's a really good adaptation (they wanted to make Lupin in 3D, and they succeeded), The Bad Guys is a love letter to Ghibli from young american animators and artists (because the film didn't required to look so Ghibli, but they still decided to trying make it look Ghibli, and it worked)
@A_E_A_U_I_O
2 жыл бұрын
@@jackcutter2 Earwig and the Witch is not in any way a good 3D adaption of the Ghibli style. It's a terrifying mess that looks like a bad Dragon Quest game, with some remotely Ghibli-like characters designe. So I repeat: The Bad Guys (and actually also Lupin III the First) is the first 3D movie that actually captures the Ghibli style of movement, character design, giving it also some wonderful DreamWorks and Tarantino inspiration. Earwig and the Witch is another proof of Goro's incompetence as a director, and a movie that has a worse 3D animation than Ronal the Barbarian. I'll do my research, and you WATCH the movies that you're talking about. There's a reason no one talks about Earwig and the Witch, because it's probably the worst Ghibli movie ever made

Not surprised since Bad Guys is essentially furry Lupin the Third (right down to the main character being this scrawny dude that wears cartoony boxer shorts but has a lot of wit and charisma, his main antagonist is a member on the police force dead set on capturing him and his love interest is a woman that may or may not have her own motivations and loves to play around with him). And we stan! Lupin genuinely deserves more affection and love from the animation community especially since it keeps inspiring so many artists and animators.
