Great choice. Those oh's were sampled from a song called "Loveride," by a band called Nuance. But you'll also like Nu Shooz's "Point of No Return," "Should I Say Yes," and "Wonder," among others.

Vanessa Williams has a song called Happiness which heavily sampled this. The title is taken from the line when she says "Happiness is so hard to find".

1985 song from One-Hit wonder Pop group that mostly played on R&B radio stations. They released another album back-to-back, but faded soon after.

Nu Shooz also does a great jazz version of I Can’t Wait. And check out 12-inch remixes of their hits. They’re all fire. So is the mellower tune Should I Say Yes. Some nice 80s keyboard-piano interplay in that one.

Can we talk about the graphics and special effects. This was pretty groundbreaking at the time. Felt like video producers were just throwing them in music videos for no reason other than they could. Like a flex.

Huge hit and packed the dance floor every time! Jay, sampling is also known “stealing” someone’s else’s original tune. It’s not cool unless they paid copyright. What’s so cool is you and Amber hearing the original music that led to your rap music ❤ ✌️

Totally agree. But it sucks the sampled version is what he’s hearing in his head while listening to the original. Like it totally tarnishes the listening experience. I freakin’ hate sampling!
@rollfizzlebeef6619

Hip-hop artists have to credit and pay sample clearances for all samples they use. True, this wasn't always the case before stricter copyright laws were enacted in the early 90's, but still, calling sampling "stealing" is way too reductive. Artists have done covers and reworkings of other people's songs, with and without monetary compensation, for decades long before hip-hop or sampling became a thing. Hell, the entire folk music tradition was based on "borrowing" other people's songs and reworking them, with no money exchanged. Sampling, when done creatively, can be an art form unto itself. J Dilla (a hip-hop producer who makes beats almost exclusively from samples) is a pretty good example. Go listen to his instrumental album "Donuts" and tell me that man wasn't a musical genius. Plus many young people discover older music they otherwise would've never come across through hearing the songs used in samples. Hell, I think the only reason anyone under the age of 30 knows Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgetting" is because of Warren G's "Regulate" 😂. I've personally discovered tons of awesome music from checking out the sample sources from some of my favorite hip-hop songs. Some artists, like George Clinton and Roger Troutman, experienced big career revivals because of their music being heavily sampled. And fwiw, whatever you might think of sampling, most rappers and hip-hop artists I know of usually are pretty straightforward about who they sample and are quick to give credit to the original artists. If you really want to get mad at artists who stole other people's songs and pretended they were original works while giving zero credit or money to the original artists, you might want to take a hard look at Led Zeppelin .
