update 2022: i swapped the steel boom box section for ali... the steel is 1,540 gms, and the aluminum is 740 gms... so far, no movement.
this is the build diary for my homebuilt recumbent bike.
based on a 20 x 20 wheel folding bike frame.
no welding, all bolt together.
basic tools, basic and non expensive bike specific tools.
i was given the bike, have a pile of existing bike parts and scrap metal, other bits i scrounged, and a few bits i had to buy.
total build cost...£20'ish.
time.... a few weeks.
design complexity.... simple skills and a little bike knowledge would make this an easy build for a novice.
a few figures.
overall length: 71" 180cm
wheelbase: 41" 104cm
seat height: 18" 46cm
BB height: 29" 74cm
weight: 48lbs 22kg (inc. rack and panniers)
aluminium frame
steel boom
aluminium seat
20" wheels
commercial ICE handlebars
angles and trail.... dunno ?!!
its heavier than i thought, or hoped it would be (it is an ali frame) steel boom doesn't help, but i wanted the security of steel !
not sure adding an aluminium scaffold tube boom would reduce weight much.
done over 200 miles so far, nothing moved wobbled or broke !
