The video from the airplane is not from the guy on the plane. The P-3 has a service ceiling of less than 30,000 feet and he said he was at 42,000 feet. He was probably in a Gulfstream 4 that NOAA uses for high-altitude hurricane research. The video is from probably under 20,000 feet would be my educated guess.
@willissanders5147

You are right, it is modified for hurricane research but, performance wise, it cannot go up to 42,000 feet. Even though Sheppard Smith (sic) doesn't say it's from the same guy, it's implied. Also, Richard Henning is the guy on the phone and the video is from Nick Underwood. Turboprops don't work very well, if at all, at those altitudes anyway.
@johnbidwell2393

I was going to make a smart comment about KZitem armchair experts but a simple search proves this is true, so kudos. Turboprops have a much lower ceiling than the 42,000 feet the commentator said on this vid.

It's a different guy on the phone from the one who posted the video. The name of the guy on the phone is Richard Henning and the guy who posted the video is Nick Underwood. That video is probably from around 10,000 feet. The guy on the phone was at 42,000 in a G4 from NOAA. I saw a video posted from another guy filmed years ago that showed him in the G4 at around 43,000 feet above a hurricane and the ride was pretty smooth based on the video.

You are right. Look at the credits for the video and it shows Nick Underwood. The guy talking says his name is Richard Henning. It's not footage from the guy on the phone. Also, people who say it's modified are missing the point. It's modified for research but that doesn't mean the service ceiling was increased roughly 50%. Range is something that can be increased at a higher percentage than speed and altitude.
