As usual, Chomsky nails it. I served as a medical corpsman in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. This was when the brass said they "could see the light at the end of tunnel." But the wounded, months before the Tet Offensive, told me the war was over in military terms. The NVA just refused to give up despite the terrible casualties we inflicted on them because we had superior air power.. Chomsky's a national treasure despite how the corporate MSM has marginalized him for his insights. He should have awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace long ago. I really admire him.

Thank you, brother. i've checked and rechecked what Chomsky has said and written for decades, at least what i can get a hold of, and, as implausible as it sounds, he has never been wrong. ... He's a prime example, for all of us, of how to deal with problems. He simply doesn't allow emotions to interfere with rational thought. He works from the information he has available. And he gets that information from the fact that he reads everything! Plus the fact he has a remarkable memory.

Sorry sweety you are not British. You are a lady of Afro descent and as such you do not carry our DNA. Alongside his Lancashie "pals" regiment he fought, killed and witnessed his buddies being blown to pieces. At just 16 he was in charge of two horses "tommy" and "mary" and his job was to get the gun carriage to the front lines. At the end of WWI he refused to allow his horses to be sold for horse meat at the local French market. He saved them from the auction resulting in them being shipped back to England. This is the type of honour and integrity that is in our English DNA. If you hate what the British did what is your guilt about the actions of your ancestors in the 16th Century when barbary coast pirates sailing down the English channel raided English ports to enslave mainly fair haired, blue eyed women? This form of slavery pre-dates that of the Europeans shipping black Africans off to the Americas. This historical truth is never mentioned in this woke and insanely PC world. Isn't he over 90? I heard him answering questions on a variety of subjects a while back and he was just brilliant. He was asked some obscure question about a particular school of linguistics and he was immediately able to size it up, with its strengths and weaknesses. But when he was asked about something that he wasn't very informed about he refused to give an opinion, not wanting to speculate.

“Because the goal is not to completely subjugate Afghanistan. The goal is to use Afghanistan to wash money out of the tax basis of the United States, out of the tax basis of European countries through Afghanistan and back into the hands of transnational security officers. That is the goal. Ideally, the goal is to have an endless war, not a successful war.”- Julian Assange, 2011. It is so sad and unfair for Afghan people who paid such a heavy price for this money laundry scam with their own bloods

A very good historical review of US military actions in the past and the worlds reactions to date. How fascinating to know that history repeating itself over and over. I wonder what lessons is ever learnt ?!
@kevinjohnson9533
3 жыл бұрын
Its not lessons learnt its the American ruling class power system and how it works. Afghanistan was profitable , it cost 2 trillion dollars from which many companies and individuals got paydays, that's the point, no lesson that they want to learn except " where's the next war and next fortune to be made". The only failure from the military part of the ruling class is that Afghanistan made a mockery of counter insurgency and and could not be pacified or subdued and play its part as a base for American empire. There is no over riding moral political philosophical ideal at play except as the lie knowingly used to fool and create consent in the American public for war and empire building.

@@kevinjohnson9533 Great comment. I think the point needs to be made that "cost" 2 trillion dollars means the American people put up $2Tr which then goes straight to corporations, apart from military wages, which in turn means that $2Tr worth of the labour of the American people (minus military wages) has been forcibly handed over to corporations, which, again, in turn means that the American people have been enslaved, to the tune of $2Tr, by corporations. This is the real meaning of the Orwellian concept of 'permanent war'.

Professor didn't say that Abdulhaq was killed in Logar province by CIA trying to negotiate with the Taliban and bring the Afghan king back in to power, which was the best move for collective agreement and also help Afghanistan as a country. But it never happened thanks to corruption in US politics. Dick Cheney should be incited by lawmakers to answer this. Respect to Prof.

Great analogy to the Tet Offensive ... We (US) slaughtered Viet Cong and NVA by the thousands, yet it was still a victory for them because it proved their commitment, reach, and ability to strike anywhere in South Vietnam. This was the Taliban's strategy, shoot and scoot before US air shows up... and it was very effective
