Wrong: Žižek. That's why Chomsky really has it out for him. Žižek suffers no illusions that the struggle is meaningless in its current form. Things will have to get much worse before they will get significantly, meaningfully better. The only reason why there's a push into green solutions is because there's a MASSIVE industry that has been built under it over the last 10 years. Thanks in large part to China, and the decisive victory of Tesla. The control went end. And frankly I don't think we have 20 years. We have 10 years to get to 0 and we have 20 to DROP carbon levels year over year. The ice is not forming in the ARCTIC until nearly December. The currents will stop and the oceans will DIE, in 10-15 years. And that's not calculating methane hydrates, massive burns of the Amazon and other forests, a double dose of carbon, and many other subtle feedback loops. Water vapor is THE strongest prominant greenhouse gas, so as the heat drives greater precipitation and evaporation, particularly let's say over the permafrost in Russia, the heat sink of the water will melt the ice, releasing carbon, the water vapor will trap the heat further, and the albedo will become significantly lower, concentrating the heat to an even higher degree. So if there's rainy weather in September or October in Siberia, the consequences will become unstoppable and irreversible without a NEGATIVE carbon output. Chomsky's hope is founded on lie: an effective American government and Meaningful International treaties that will not be about Reduction, but Total Abandonment of fossil feels in a DECADE. The one sliver of hope? Fusion might be feasible in about 54 months, and it will expand explosively because of the Insane profit margins on the technology, as well as hundred gigawatt battery installations.

The super terrific Noam and the very lovely Ana. It's like heaven squared. I watch a lot of Chomsky clips on YT, and he went through a phase a year or two ago where he was really looking like his time was up. In the last several months, I'm happy to note that it looks to me like some of his sharpness and lucidity has returned. It's in the eyes as well as the voice. It's great to see, and it's all one can expect from a 92 year old. If anyone ever deserved a National Monument, it's Noam. An international treasure, and I love him to bits.

Chomsky is called so many things but we overlook the fact that he is a sociological genius. This very basic fact is missed because we listen to him as "left" or "radical" or "activist" or whatever thinker. @@anonymike8280 Thanks for the reply. You’re certainly not a pest. I think you misunderstood my meaning. I’m not deciding what is in the best interest of others. They must each decide that for themselves. However, if you look up Newt Gingrich, there are several articles or Netflix’s The Family episode four I think talking about his agenda and revamping of the republican party. One very important aspect was these “wedge issues” which Gingrich himself straight out explains his goal was to create more republican voters often with misinformation campaigns and sometimes outright lies. Reagan and Gingrich were the beginning of the “alternate facts” but much more subtly than Trump. Trump bombarded us with so many lies even about meaningless things that what republicans had been doing previously almost seemed harmless. It wasn’t though and it purposefully divided Americans and left many of us vulnerable to the disinformation campaigns by the Russians more recently. Thirty or forty years ago, I don’t think Americans would have been confused about disinformation, we wouldn’t have fallen for the lies, but the way the Soviets destabilized countries has suspiciously similar outcome as what’s happened to so many Americans who can’t seem to distinguish truth from lies. Yuri Bezmenov’s Warning to America in 1984 (about 6-7 minute video) is very interesting. It’s worth a watch. Have a good day!
