On 17 October 1989, ITN spoke to Karl Lagerfeld, fashion designer and creative director at Chanel, at his studio in Paris. The interviewer questioned him about the principles that guided his design, asking him whether he made clothes designed for "every woman", what constituted his "ideal woman", and the importance of developing new designs and being "open to changes".
The 2023 Met Gala honoured Lagerfeld, who died in 2019, with its central exhibit, "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty". Models and others involved in the fashion industry have protested against the controversial decision to honour Lagerfeld, whose legacy is problematic due to what bhis critics consider to be the numerous fatphobic, misogynistic, and racist comments he made over the decades.
