Jeet Kune Do teaches a similar technique, though I only learned it for my lead hand. The idea of raising my elbow for rear hooks never crossed my mind since I usually throw mine from the hip

You need to add that this punch is one of the most dangerous for your opponents but also for yourself. I know many local champions that got their shoulder hurt with this punch. Becareful using the rear hook.

Edward's was using it more as a blind. He did make him dip also yes, but it was a blind for the unseen head kick. Gaethje used it on Poirier even more effectively. It doesn't seem hard to throw but it is. I've been practicing it but it's tough timing wise. Leaving the hand out there at just the right timing like milliseconds to catch them

That’s a great idea setting it up with same hand cross I love using footwork to set up hooks (like make them walk into them laterally for example) but im working on my combinations so yea nice advice One “combination” I love doing is left hook (to face) left hook to body (Id be in southpaw in this scenario) Practice my combos with both hands in both stances And really reset like not becoming sloppy even if I care about being fluid with my movements

Slip left/block with your right arm & counter with the lead hook is a good way to counter the rear hook with someone left handed.. may be a little different against someone right handed you would need to slip right & block with the left against someone right handed and counter with a right hook

@@jamesmiles1328 Manny feinted a low body jab by lowering his body, then hit Hatton with a left hook, but it wasn't a left jab that became a left hook mid travel. Usyk threw 2 "1-2's" at Bellew, who wasn't guarding. Mcgregor hit Alverez with a left counter cross, then did a right underhand jab/left overhand cross combination to finish. I slowed these clips down and did not see am instance of a fighter feinting with a jab then turning the jab into a hook. I don't deny that it's a good punch, the setup is good enough to land, but because you're losing a lot of speed to change the momentum of the punch mid-travel I can't see someone getting a KO with it unless like you said, they move right into it.

@@InsulinRunner I’m not talking about all the set ups lol,I’m saying about the backhand hook,you don’t change midflow to throw it,like he said in the video just a demo,setting it up hitting a cross,then when opponent is used to it swap it to backhand hook,like you see with pacquiao punch lands flush it’s powerful end of the fight,if you watch McGregor fights he uses it a lot,baits opponents into a punch he slips it times them with a backhand hook,also similar with Aldo to,

Excellent tip. That is why you throw the hooks sometimes with the palm pointing towards the floor. European style. You used to have a video where you were arguing against it.
@tristargymwestcoast

No this is not why you throw palm down hooks. If anything at long range you could throw thumb down hooks. In this video I’m showing a hook with the palm facing in and the thumb facing up.
@ED-yo4qi
Ай бұрын
@@tristargymwestcoast If you look at where your palm is facing you'll find it points for at least 80% of the trajectory towards the floor. The punch seems to end with a quick twist into a russian overhand (Fedor is the best example who did this most often). Over 90% of the time you post relevant and legit stuff or even novelty smart stuff which is amongst the best stuff you can find over the internet. You give hints on how to fight smart regardless of your anatomy. That is ultimately the best thing one could spread over the internet for the amateur fighting community. But you do have some posts from time to time where you say some stuff... Like the ones about thai kicking or this horizontal hook. I'm not sure if it's a marketing plot to get people to argue in the comments or if you're trying your community for their common sense or knowledge. You should keep doing what you're doing man. Including the ones I don't agree with from a personal and technical standpoint.

This puts me in kind of a weird spot as an RTX 4080 owner because I was hoping to hold out for the RTX 5080 but if its potentially less performance than a 4090, the only decent upgrades for me now would be to get a 5090, which I really cant justify spending 2000.00 on a GPU or just trying to get a 4090 FE or Gigabyte Windforce for like 1600 i guess? I guess I could get a 5090 and hopefully sell my 4080 for 500 - 800 USD and recoup some of the cost. Idk, what are you guys thinkikg ?

The overhand is a better version of a rear hook and as a southpaw I can tell you outright that rear hooks from open stance, especially if you’re bladed at all, are essentially worthless 99% of the time.
@tristargymwestcoast
29 күн бұрын
Overhand hits a completely different line of attack. If you think rear hooks are worthless in open it’s almost certain that you just do not understand the stance configuration as deeply as you could.
@siegethompson3194
29 күн бұрын
@@tristargymwestcoast that’s totally possible! Lol I’m a bad motherfucker out and about but any of y’all pros on the mat would wipe the floor with me in absolutely sure of that. But my bladed point still stands. I learned karate first, and that’s my stance in southpaw, Muay Thai later, and that’s my orthodox stance. Don’t ask me why I can’t switch and do both both ways, idk, it’s just the way I’m ingrained lol but being that bladed from southpaw almost entirely negates a rear hook from either party, in my experience.

@@siegethompson3194 being a bladed southpaw puts you in danger. Square up your shoulders and you’ll immediately feel closer your back hand. Also, you will be further away from his back hand.
