An interview of Paresh Maity on his exhibition
NOISE OF MANY WATERS…
four decades by paresh maity
Water is the principle connector on planet Earth. It joins and is also a dis-jointer; it is fragile, voluminous, it can drown you; it is gentle and it is the most endangered, living form on the Earth.
All these characteristics are revealed in a hauntingly, beautiful exhibition, of one of the finest water colourist in India and also recognized internationally, Paresh Maity. Water colour is the most challenging medium in painting. The artist has to very knowingly, load their brush with the exact amount of water and paint. It is laborious and time staking.
Noise of Many Waters is an unusual exhibition because in India, rarely is a major artist’s retrospective curated. Retrospectives are critical because it is a source of information about the artist’s history.
In this rare exhibition, over hundred and twenty artworks, which span forty years of Maity’s career, invites the viewer to embark on a travel into Maity’s skill and his wander lust.
The retrospective includes water colour paintings, drawings, sketches and a film and sound installation about water.
