Yeia sou JIm. I agree with you 100%. When I first did my own brakes, I would omit cleaning the caliper brackets. As a result the rust buildup caused a very tight fit for the new pads. I now take a wire brush to them and make sure the pads slide freely.

THANK YOU!!!

At 6:00 I have found this to be the most important info during a brake install! A lot of times the brake pads you buy at auto parts stores will fit too tight because those clips are either the wrong ones or carelessness of the manufacturer. Then you have to pull out a file or dremel tool and shave a little bit of the ears down. A lot of people don't realize some clips (abutment clips) are designed to push the brake pad away from the rotor when the brakes aren't in use to minimize friction and brake wear, not simply to minimize rattles/squealing.

Thanks for that sir! Last time, I asked my dad to work on my brakes, he said would, but only did the front. Then I asked him if he cleaned them and like what you said to lubricate those areas. From my Haynes owners manual guide it suggests that. This past fall months the brakes on the car have been making horrible noise. I even asked him if he did the back brakes, but he did not. That just makes me want to go to an auto shop instead.

Trip i took the passenger front wheel off today too much squealing. Changed the clips .put the orange similar to rtv on backs of pads. I put new pads and rotors from napa 3 months ago. Coated rotors the pads 63 bucks. I bought this truck new from the dealer in 17 . I could tell they did a pad swap cause the pads were glued to the caliper piston and the outboard was glued to the caliper . No squeal when i bought it. So i went back to glueing the pads and greasing the slides . Thanks for your videos you do . Maybe i have to buy $100+ pads . I been getting $63 im getting good at jacking the truck up and getting to the brakes. I seen you do the axle u joint . Thanks

I drive a 2011 Rav4 and travel 1.5 mile of sandy road each way. Sometimes the sand is dry and loose; other times I drive through large areas of ponded water up to 1 foot deep. Recently had the front break pads replaced. But over the summer, the brakes have developed a rubbing/grating sound when brakes are applied. I wonder where the sand and muddy water is infiltrating to make this noise. Likely culprit is between the pads and disc, but I'd like to know what you think.

I had squeaking on local driving in NYC after 40 minutes of so . My mechanics test drove my camry. Couldn't find anything wrong. If I hit the brake pedal with my heel no noise . Another mechanic said squeaking is absolutely nothing. I went back to a mechanic in Brooklyn i used. He said squeaking is just vibration of dust, and its glazed. A Toyota dealer worker said it doesn't happen with their oem parts. I know it shouldn't make a difference if the brakes are on a Mercedes or a Toyota. Toyota doesn't manufacturer their own brakes. A collision place told me these parts are finicky. My hunch is all is needed is the drums or rotors may be dirty. Brakes fairly new. It's not a dangerous condition. Some squeaking is totally normal. Unless however if it's all the time it could be another story. If the brakes are stopping well i think it should be ok. Some places online say one could adjust their braking style. I have another car. That volvo is double the price. Some noises are normal for certain cars due to different designs and weight differences.

On Blazers with CV shafts on front, debris can lodge on outside of the splash guard on the knuckle up near the yoke, this can cause a whooshing sound during turns that vanishes in wet conditions until brakes dry out. A narrow gap is in this space maybe 2mm, it needs to be clear, use a feeler gauge shim or narrow screwdriver to break out the rust and debris and noise is gone.
