To remove the outside, remove all screws and feet on the bottom and the back. Then, slide the back down until you can take it off. After that, there's one more screw on the under side, below the knobs. if you take out that screw, the entire top panel can be pulled off towards the back of the oven, starting on the side that doesn't have the panel. Firmly but carefully pull the side panel towards the back of the oven and it will slide away from the front. Work your way to the other side of the oven until you can pull the whole thing including the display away from the oven. The display is connected with two cables that need to be removed before fully removing the control panel.

Thank you for the information! I was able to reach the fan to lubricate it without removing that far left screw that you were worried about dropping down into the oven. With the oven on its side (fan up), I was able to lift up the cover enough to drip some 3-in-1 oil directly onto the shaft under the fan blades. The 3-in-1 nozzle was just a bit too big to fit in such a tight place so I used a drinking straw split vertically to form a long skinny trough to drip oil down onto the shaft. While still on its side, I plugged the oven in and let the fan spin for a minute to help the oil flow down the shaft into the bushing (removing the straw of course). Now the fan runs like it was new! Thanks again! P.S. one quick note: When putting the gray plastic foot back on, be aware that there is a groove in that plastic that the side cover of the oven slides down into. Before putting the screws back into that gray foot, be sure the foot is seated correctly. It should slide all the way back into place without needing to tighten the screws in.

Coming up on 2 years and had same issue. Used a similar lubricant and the fan started to spin again on the inside in addition to out. I Kept it on outside for a bit to get rid of smell and it seems to be working fine (currently day 2 working). Thanks for video. $4 lubricant saved me buying another oven.

That solved my issue!!! When I manually moved my fan, it moved easily. But when the motor turned on, the fan got stuck and resisted moving no matter how much I tried. Applying silicone spray didn't make a difference. Then I turned the oven so it was on the other side of the fan. I sprayed lube straight on the fan's pole and let it sink in. After waiting around one minute, I turned on the fan, and it moved without any trouble.

There is one recessed screw on the bottom below the control panel. If you remove that, you do not have to get to those screws deep in the oven. The panel comes off attached to the case and then you can remove the panel if you need to.

Chris S.'s suggestion was super helpful. I removed the recessed screw and then removed the four long screws securing the feet on that side. I then removed 6 or so small screws securing the metal panel to reach the outside fan. I used WD-40 silicone spray with the long red "straw" extender to reach the top spindle of the outside fan. I then resecured the metal panel and feet and went inside the oven to reach the interior fan. I used the WD-40 silicone spay with the extender on the top of the fan spindle, and then sprayed the spindle under the fan itself. I then turned on the oven with the convection fan on to lubricate the moving parts. Almost completely silent. Note: Although only rated to 400 degrees, I'd use food grade silicone next time. There is a silicone odor coming from the convection fan now - I've been trying to burn it off and it seems to slowly be going away. But its not pleasant. I may have used too much WD-40 silicone spray but my guess is that even with less spray the odor would still remain. But problem solved.

This was extremely helpful! Mine had seized up and wouldn't spin on its own anymore. Got some lubricant in there and it worked! However, my "outside" fan blade came off, so it was a struggle to get that screwed back onto the shaft. I didn't discover until after reassembling that there's a screw head on the "inside blade"-end that you can use to tighten the outside blade against. Breville Smart Convection Oven fan repair

Thanks. Mine's almost dead silent now. As some have mentioned, removing the recessed screw below the control panel on the bottom helps greatly, after removing all the other screws. I used Super Lube 21030 Synthetic Grease. Put a small dab on a q-tip and applied it around the fan's shaft. This lube is non-toxic USDA H-1 approved and has working temperature of up to 450F. I do have a Noble Lubriquik silicon spray (also USDA approved), but didn't want any over-spray to get everywhere. Grease is the way to go in this application.

For those that are thinking of a replacement unit: In the past 2 months I went through 2 brand new units with excessive fan noise. Returned them both. One sounded like a small prop engine the second one started off noisy then slowly settled down. What poor quality control ! I've had 3 units in 10 years and all eventually develop this malady. Shame because the unit works well otherwise.

Thank you for sharing your DIY fan repair, I will certainly try your suggestion, good you show all the strategic screws 8-) I tried it today Dec 28, 2020, but does not work me, I even give it a push blowing air from my compressor, it kind of start to spin but eventually stop, maybe the fan is beyond its ages. So I disconnect the fan from the power supply board to avoid the humming noise. And for the black screw, I magnetize my screw driver so it won`t fall off. Now let see if can find part for that fan.

Thank you for this video. I did as you suggested and the fan works much better and more quietly. I've had this appliance for 6 or 7 years and it started making that horrendous noise after about 2 years so I just stopped using the convection feature. However with air fryers gaining in popularity I decided to try to fix it and just buy a fryer basket which I ordered yesterday from Amazon. I am wondering for future if drilling a small access hole thru the outer side panel in front of the fan to use to spray lubricant as needed would be a good idea? The hole could easily be sealed with aluminum duct tape. Thanks again!

Breville's design appears shoddy. The toaster-oven is held together with more screws than should be allowed on a device of this size, likely to discourage cleaning/fixing by owners. Didn't find anything in the accompanying owner's manual about how to clean/lubricate the fan. Close to impossible to clean the fan, which becomes dirty/noisy and gets stuck. Whack the fan side and it becomes less noisy and starts working for a while... Soon it gets back to its "GNAAAH". What a joke of a product!
@lciummo1

You can spray the fan with a degreaser with 409 from inside the over, then a spray of the bearings with silicone or mineral oil will work. Let it dry after any wet cleaning. Screws keep things still and prevent rattling, but feel free to leave out a few on reassembly.

Above 570°F, Teflon coatings break down, releasing toxic chemicals into the air. Some of the spray gets into the bearning to free the fan - the rest can burn off in a few minutes. I don't think teflon is required - if you can get some mineral oil, silicone, et at the center of the fan hub, both side, that should work as well.

We have the same Breville, and have not heard that noise, in your video, from ours, I can certainly tell you. What it sounds like, when the convection function is engaged, is that it's rotating very slowly, and gradually stops. "Whoowh whoowh whoowh whoowh whoowh....whoowh... whoowh... whoowh...... whoowh...[ and so on, until the fan is completely silent]. I would actually get that unit professionally serviced, because from the sound of it, that could be an electrical noise.
@TheDzungTa

@@patoconnell4554 I asked Breville Support about the noise. They said something similar, the unit needs repair service, which to me, as quoted, does not economical sense, I may as well buy a new one. Then Breville actually offers a great discount on the new one, which is very attractive. However, I don't know if I should buy the same, or even a higher end model, not knowing the nature of the problem. I don't think it is the convection fan that makes noise, rather the Start/Cancel circuit board gets some flaky solder joints when hot, it get open or something, or the program circuit board get messed up, needs a reset once in a while?? Otherwise it is still working, e.g. cooking pizza at 450 deg F for 20 min no problem, "most of the time". Hitting Start/Cancel will reset it!! My dilemma: this 845 model is still working, on and off. When it makes this noise, I just hit the Start/Cancel button once or twice, then it gets reset, working again. I just hate to throw out something still useful, however annoying! Thanks for your thought, though!

All these repairs are temporary, the bushings that support the fan shaft wear out and cause excessive play in the fan when it spins. It'll eventually stop spinning altogether. If you tried a repair like this and it didn't work, nothing will. Time for a new oven.
