I tried many of those lines and of course moved on to Varivas and am very happy with their lines. Good video...a 14-15 inch white bass is good for Nickajack for sure. I would have stayed there all day!

I would greatly appreciate a line recommendation. I recently purchased a dobyns Sierra panfish/trout rod 7' ultralight fast action prior to seeing your review of the rod. I am not overly pleased with it at all but to return it,it would be not worth all the shipping charges. I am using the rod mainly for crappie and bluegill to fill in time while i largemouth bass fish. The line i am currently using is Berkley X9 hivis braid 6lb test with fc sniper fluorocarbon 6lb leader. The problem that i have is that the connection knot to the leader keeps hitting the guides. I have used the double uni knot as well as the Yucatan knot and both are not working. I am willing to switch both lines to whatever you recommend. I just need this rod to work properly. Thanks for your time.

thats the worst rod i ever tried. Not sure what u picked from my review to make u buy it. I didn't say anything positive. I know there is another dude who recommends this rod but i hate it. I have a Rod Buying Guide that i publish every year and i always note there how bad this rod is.

knots should not be a problem though. Just use only 2 feet leader so the knot doesn't have to go through guides. Thats what i do

@@ifishcatfish Idk but ester line and reel drag should be compatible and flouro is less sensitive. Anyways I was like you from the start but when I got better in my drag play and the retrieving style it got really fun in fact last sunday I caught a baby spanish mackerel on 0.9lb mainline (leader #0.8) which took me more than 10 mins to land. I admit that ester breaks off but at this point I've found a line that'll though it'll break I'm confident it won't break while using the right drag amount with regards to the line rating.

Do you think the type of guides has to do something with it? I’ve experienced similar things but with different line, when reeling in through stained water.
@ifishcatfish
Жыл бұрын
Then can. But if u watched the whole video, i swapped the reel for precisely this reason. Putting new reel and line on that same rod made the noise go away, so it can't be guides. Also, these high end rods have non sticky guides and extremely hard surface and thats very unlikely to be the issue with such rods
@johnbetbabanta3724
Жыл бұрын
@@ifishcatfish I saw the whole video, but I think different lines can are “wetter” meaning they leave a different amount of water that sticks on them onto the guides. My 3lb phenix braid makes a much different noise than my 3lb varivas svg nylon. And these are the guides of a tenryu lunakia, so definitely a high end rod. Just theories of course. I’ve noticed when using a friends combo that 2lb izorline mono had a crazy amount of noise being reeled through an xtune soare with a luvias airity reel. Just something we have to deal with I guess
@ifishcatfish

@@johnbetbabanta3724 I don't even know what your point is any more. Are you saying that even though the noise disappeared when I put a different reel/line on the same rod, the problem can still be with the rod?? I'm reading your post and it seems passionate but I don't even understand what exactly are u trying to give evidence for
@johnbetbabanta3724
Жыл бұрын
@@ifishcatfish typed that out late so my words could be jumbled. Have you tried that line/reel on a different rod in different water conditions and had the same effect? What I’m trying to say is that the guides on the rod are an instrument to noise being created, no matter how high end the rod is. Some rods and lines inherently make noise. Laws of conservation of matter. Its either going to come out as noise or heat as it goes through the relatively low, but still present friction present in the guides. Maybe I’m thinking too deep
@ifishcatfish
Жыл бұрын
@@johnbetbabanta3724I don't know how u come up with all this stuff. When i swap the reels its obvious the rod is fine. But it could still be from the reel, specifically from the line roller, if it is seized. I saw even on the water the line roler was spinning freely, but when i got home i took the spool out of that soare, and put it in my other soare reel, which is high gear ratio but I was just testing the line. I put it on a rod and it started making the noise right away. This proved it wasn't the reel either, the only thing left is the line.

So u don't use line above 8lbs pretty much? How can u actually tell the difference with those light of lines. Don't most lines that are under 10lbs break around the same amount and pretty hard to test abrasive resistance since literally a small nick in the line can break it just wondering.
@ifishcatfish
Жыл бұрын
i use 0.30 mm for carp fishing, which is around 8 lb. But yeah, for ultralight fishing i go from 1.9 lb to 4 lb the highest.. You are right, these thin lines are very sensitive to abrasion. If i snag on a branch, i remove all line that touched the branch. But as long as the line is in good condition, 2 lb is more than enough strength for any panfish and any bass and even occasional catfish.

that depends on 100 things, your rod, how do u fish, what do u like, what is your budget.. I have a playlist with line reviews that i like and recommend but in the video i say what applications i recommend them for.. If i don't know anything i would say get some sunline or varivas fluorocarbon that is between 0.12mm and 0.14mm diameter and should work for whatever u do. But most lines are really good for some applications and not so good for others. FLuorocarbon is kind of all around
