I need to read The Case Against Fragrance. I actually suffer from some of the symptoms the author talks about. I can't wear perfume, or scented makeup. If I try to use scented laundry detergent, I'll literally break out in hives and be itching everywhere! It's insane, and I don't even see why so many brands are obsessed with scented stuff (besides candles, which are awesome!). Who cares if their foundation is scented or not?
@Victoriacariad
6 жыл бұрын
Funny you mention candles...I found a scented candle in the back of one of my drawers and burned it for a few evenings in a row. During that time I had a pretty bad headache but couldn't pinpoint what it was, until I remembered how my cousin's migraines were brought on by perfume and strong-scented deodrants.
@AnneEWilliamson

Well, I suppose I buy expensive candles, which is probably why I've never had an issue with it. But wow, don't burn that candle anymore!
@Victoriacariad

Possibly, this one was from a supermarket that my auntie bought me a while ago. When I read the box after it said "May cause allergic reaction"! Never had that from the nicer/natural candles I have.

May cause allergic reaction? WTF! I've never gotten a candle that says that. That candle sounds dangerous!
@Victoriacariad

Ikr! It was from Sainsbury's and says "Contains Tetramethyl Acetyloctahydronaphthalenes"...whatever the hell that is. Probably best to stick with candles you know are made with bees/soy wax and natural oils, and avoid paraffin and things you can't pronounce!

It’s about time you read nonfiction books! For me they’re a better source of knowledge and wisdom than fiction books. I’ve also read The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck and tbh it’s one of those books that actually changed my perspective on life. I highly recommend you check out Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl, and The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. They’re really really good and will help you straighten out your life.

I have a nonfiction book on Amazon about love, falling in love and heartbreak etc. I am actually (finally) seeking reviews and I would bet money you would enjoy it. It's title: Uncovering Love's Hidden Truths. It is my humble, arrogant and obviously biased opinion, that women especially, should arm themselves with the concepts in this book before they make a single decision about love and marriage. I swear to God, you'll get something valuable about life from this book. Thanks, Larry

If you're looking for some more good NF reads, I recommend 2 authors. The first is Charles Duhigg's 'The Power of Habit' and he basically breaks down, what habits are, how they're formed, how to break them and how to build new ones, but it's so much more in depth than that. The other is basically anything by Malcolm Gladwell, but 'David & Goliath' is a good one to start with. He takes a close look at underdogs and how we approach adversity, overcome obstacles, and the tools we use to better challenges way bigger than we should be capable of. That's a pretty trash description that I just gave. I promise the back of the book could do much better!

I finished The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck last night, actually! I took away mostly the same advice, but I can't tell if this genre is helpful for me or not? It feels like most of the authors for these type books are so self-serving, and in some ways that can be helpful, and in others way I'm just sitting there like Oh my God are we really doing this? I had the same problem with You Are a Badass. Hopefully you haven't experienced the same lmao. Glad to have you back! 💙
