Beautiful lake and river for camping and fishing. I love your bamboo leaves hat. I think that the Vietnamese hat. Popular for farmers and ordinarily people. Stay safe fishing. Please wear a life vest. Even in a shallow water. We need to go home with our family at the end of the day. Take care.

Looks similar to Kennedy Meadows. I fish rivers like this all the time in the Sierras/NorCal and have pulled out 7 pounders. Monster river rainbows. The best set up by far is 4lb Maxima Mono, no leader, straight to hook with 2 split shots and 2 red label Pautzkes salmon eggs. Find deep pools and drift the eggs through it. You will catch 100+ trout in 2-3 days easy. Catch and release of course. Great vid bro, glad to see you out in nature.

A little piece of nightcrawler does well also. And no bobber. 🙄 Start downstream and work your way up. Make a cast to a likely holding area and let the current bring it back towards you. Keep taking up the slack and your line off the water as much as possible. Keep in mind that unless you see trout rising to take emerging bugs, most will be near the bottom.

The attractor you are using is a dodger. A flasher has corners and usually two breaks and are thinner at one end and wider at the other end. I troll alot here in Juneau AK. The dodger wobbles and the flasher spins in big circular motion.

those are kokanee, typically they dont get much larger than that at small mountain lakes
@danlewis6157

Yup, Kokanee; forked tail. Try trolling a Dave Davis 3 or 5 blade spinning attractor, a rubber snubber to protect their delicate mouths, a 2-3 foot leader, and a frog pattern small spoon or Swedish Pimple. It’s a lot of gear, but it catches the larger Kokes.

That first trout from the stream is a wild non hatchery fish. The hatchery trout always have a clipped adipose fin. The guy you caught had a nice tall adipose fin. Nice catch. That looks like a Kokanee to me. I used to catch Kokanee in Lake Payette, Idahi, and in Lake Shasta. By the way I was killing the trout and salmon in Lake Shasta on 4" Speedy Shiner spoons, and Kastmasters both chrome and blue. Instead of a downrigger I used a Jet-Diver to get my line down though a Tru-Trip diver may even be better. I'd like to see you kayak trolling the Delta for Striped Bass, and maybe even Shad. Aloha, and keep up the great vids fellow "Hafu".

I've fished the high Sierra camp grounds off the 395 here in Cali from Lone Pine up to Bishop, and I've found bigger trout love hanging tight to the flotsam from little water falls and drops. I would get instant slams on the first drop from hungry touts competing with each other for meals falling down stream of those water falls. Stalkers for 90% of the time, but I would get an occasional pinkie of nice size. I would use mini rattle traps, rooster tails, mini cast masters, and super dupers. Filled my stringer walking the stream in less than hour.

Definitely Kokanee as others have said. I’ve caught similar sized kokes there every year which tells me they’re reproducing since they don’t stock that lake with Kokanee. That worm worked for you, well done. Small Kastmaster or similar small lures trolled behind a dodger or just naked works as well. Nice drone footage.

This is the kind of fish I grew up catching. Tackle is way too heavy. You would almost be better off using a children's rod and reel. Crickets are the preferred bait in these small streams. Hook it through the jacket and not the head. No bobber because that scares the fish. The only ones too stupid are the rainbow trout. Float the cricket from the top of a little fall. When the cricket hits the pool, it is almost guaranteed the trout will hit. Morning and dusk are the good times to fish. Crickets, crickets, crickets Where are you camping? German browns are not too difficult to catch. You need to be very quiet, and make sure they cannot see you or a shadow. When I go home to fish, that is all we usually catch.
