In US news and current events today, Washed Ashore makes animal sculptures out of trash from the beach that endangers them. Washed Ashore is a nonprofit that creates ‘Art to Save the Sea.’ Each of its animal sculptures are created entirely from the plastic pollution that threatens their existence. The nonprofit was founded in 2010 by Angela Haseltine Pozzi. She was partly inspired by her artistic upbringing and her desire to save the ocean in memory of her late husband, Craig Pozzi. Today, Washed Ashore has cleaned up 26 tons of garbage from the beaches along the coast of Oregon and turned it into more than 70 larger-than-life sculptures.
