I've been using Hazel for a few years now, it's great! The main tasks are, 1. Monitor my Downloads folder for my PDF Bank Statements - Hazel can scan inside the PDF to pick up the Account Number & Date, then rename it from that Date and file it away to correct folder/subfolder. 2. Organise my Photos from Dropbox - Dropbox already renames my uploaded photos with Date/Time taken. Hazel monitors the Camera Uploads folder, then moves the files to my Main Photos folder and sorts them into Year/Month Sub-folders. Photo management is now fully automated 😎. The other options also available is monitoring of the Trash folder to keep it clean and App Sweep which can offer to uninstall applications and all their support files.

I use Hazel. I made a folder called “Move to Evernote” ... when I add any file to it, it will make a new note on Evernote and drop that file in it, and then it moves the file to trash 😉

Nice! Windows has an Evernote import folder but nothing comparable for Mac. I have a licence for Hazel but always end up doing nothing with it. This sounds a great option. Thanks!

Rami, is that still working for you? I have a similar folder that has worked well for me for a long time. In the last week or so, the script fails (syntax error). Can you post the script that you're using?

This makes Hazel much more powerful than I thought! It's a 'dropzone' for automation!

The feather duster icon reminded me of the likely origin of it's name- an old tv series about a maid played by Shirley Booth... haven't thought of that in years! kzitem.info/news/bejne/zH2QnGx7q3uklWk

Such a great idea! This sounds like a fantastic tool for addressing daily, repetitive tasks. I bet you could get really creative with it, too.

I’d expand on that rule. As you’ve backed up the file - why not send it to Trash as well? Or have a separate rule, for that folder that sends files >1 or 2 days old to Trash. Then I have a rule, that watches my Trash folder and deletes anything >30 days old. Should be plenty of time to recover the file of there’s a disaster.

I've been using Hazel for years. I don't process a lot of folders, but it's worth every bit of the money just for App Sweep. When enabled (in its Trash tab), when you throw an application away, it offers to also throw away the application's support files (deep in your system's library folders, etc.).

I use Hazel for paperless office sorting of bills etc. I think one of its most powerful features is to be able to read inside native PDFs so it can auto-sort your downloaded bills into folders without renaming them. Love this program and thanks , I got a few new ideas from this video!
