Do I understand this right? This LNA has no use with LoRa as there is no pass through for TX power. It is only for reception?

@@Tore_Lund Ther eis trick using a spltter and two antennas, so the RX comes antenna/amplifier/splitter/miner and TX goes from the second splitter port to a different antenna out. Check my videos I have one about it.

@@viocaia I have watched a lot of your videos and I appreciate your experimental approach to everything. My interest is not Helium mining, but Meshtastic, however the RF challenges are the same. Same channels and transmit power. I live in a city, not too high up, like you. So I get most contacts max 2 km away, but occasionally from 6-13 km away, so I try to optimize my setup to best use my un-optimal location. Meshtastic is possibly not that useful for anything, but it has become an interesting hobby. The enjoyment so far, is to make QSO with strangers. Like a radio amateur, but without needing a license.

You read the Peak value, but is the Noise not the Floor value?
@viocaia

It's just a compare with the other amplifiers I tested..The floor noise is around -80dB...that's the reference..and peak is the noise added by the amplifier..

Yes, it can be used and it's improving RX. About earnings, that's depend about the network, after my statistic like 10% of the incoming RX is turn to witness.

I recently bought this for some radios that I have and was wondering if I could just use this by itself between the radio and the antenna when it's powered on or if it needs to be connected to something to actually have an affect on receiving.

It's an amplifier..high gain and low noise, one of the best you can find ..of course it will affect RX..it will improve it for sure. A 5V phone charger will do a proper power supply.

@@viocaia Yeah, I would love to see real results. Nooelec is a good company but a true LNA needs to meet this criteria at its maximum (for instance the LNA for the old C band satellites was less than 45 Kelvin max at 25 degrees Celsius) is -> A typical LNA may supply a power gain of 100 (20 decibels (dB)) while decreasing the signal-to-noise ratio by less than a factor of two (a 3 dB noise figure (NF)). Although LNAs are primarily concerned with weak signals that are just above the noise floor, they must also consider the presence of larger signals that cause intermodulation distortion.

@@viocaia You don't have the equipment to measure how low noise it really is so a lot of companies bank on that. Lab equipment to measure the Kelvin temp added by the LNA is heavily expensive. What that leaves is hoping someone did it who has access to such lab equipment. We can measure the other two items I mentioned with equipment you already have.
