The "thumb nail" with you in a red cape and hooding finally ended at the end of the video in my hearing "thanks for wItching" ;-) Non dago sorgin erratza? (where is the witch broom?) ;-) To avoid misunderstandings: Sorginak are hold in high value in EH, thus approach them politly! - My confusions with NOR NORI NORK, I hope it clarifies, if not, BARKATU. My 1st confusion with NOR NORI NORK,: My 1st Basque teacher (before corona) was thinking I could learn Basque in one semester. She wrote NOR NORI NORK on the blackboard and below a sentence, which had (of course) the Ergative form ending -k at the beginning, So I would have expected NORK NORI NOR. The 2nd was I did not know then that the Absolutive rules the Nominative AND the Akkusativ (same forms), and that the NOR here relates to Akkusativ. The 3rd , better call it a challenge, some verbs request different cases, in different languages. - My memnonic tricks (not grammatically correct but working for me) di (double in greek) "announes" two things: a Direct and an Indirect object. zki (plural marker) , in the old days before the mono ski was invented, there had to be always two=Plural of them. - Motivation: if you use NOR NORI NORK in E(uskal) H(erria); the locals will be very astonished and might say in English: Oh, you know NORI NORK, appreciating you are digging deeper into the language than a normal tourist would do. You will be a heroine or a hero!

Aratsalde on, Shanna! What would your thoughts be on the meotodo naturale as espoused by Krashen and his ilk?
@basqueberserk

Haha you make him sound so evil 😂 I like comprehensible input! But I also really like to study grammar (I’m in the minority camp there). I think both outright grammar studying and comprehensible input have their places in language learning but I wouldn’t suggest one over the other %100. Mostly people have to play around with language and find out what works for them. I wish I could put out some CI videos but that’s not really my place as a non-fluent non-native Basque learner. ☺️ And what do you think about CI?
@shyb35

Well yes, I take your point. I think with any Romance language a comprehensible input approach, for an English speaker, would work; it would seem, however, that with Euskara which has a rather different grammatical structure and vocabulary to most known languages that to approach it from a grammitacal angle would be the more sensible option. I try to listen to Irratia Euskadi every day; when one of the five words I understand are spoken I do a mini Mexican wave by myself as the norepinephrine courses through my neural network! When Albie from Italaiiano Automatico delivers a monologue on one of his videos I can, generally speaking, comprehend 80 - 90% of what he's saying. I'm not entirely sure that Krashen isn't Beelzebub incarnate, although don't quote me on that!!!*@? @@basqueberserk

dio is not always dio: Jon dio ez dela etorriko. John says he won't (will not) come.
@basqueberserk

That's true! And of course these forms are not of the same origin; dio meaning "he says" is its own independent synthetic verb form and not an auxiliary, so you won't find it hinged to a main verb. 😊

Hello, I have a little question. If nor-nori-nork is "X gave X to X", what is the Present Tense? Or if this is the Present tense, what is the Past tense?
@basqueberserk
Ай бұрын
Good question! So for this video I did use the near past tense, meaning it happened today (or possibly before today, but that's another issue), but this nor-nori-nork auxiliary form is also used for the present tense. The examples I gave with "eman" specifically had the past tense form of "eman", which is simply "eman". So "eman dizut" says something like "I gave it to you (today)". But to say "I give it to you" in present tense, you change "eman" to "ematen", so "ematen dizut". You can also change the auxiliary form "dizut" to a further past tense form while still keeping "eman", indicating a time before today, so yesterday or at whichever previous time, but you would say "eman nizun". Please let me know if this doesn't make sense, I will be glad to help more!

@@basqueberserk mila esker! So, theoritically, "emango diot" means "he will give it to me"?
@basqueberserk
Ай бұрын
@@robotguard614 yes, future tense will be emango, though “emango diot” would be “I will give it to him”. “He will give it to me” would be “emango dit” ☺️
