so i have been on a quest to find the best bass synth for my dawless setup. something non-typical, lots of modulation, no keyboard, midi-friendly, save-able patches, lots of hands on control for patching, must be able to do deep soft subs. finally my prayers may have been answered.

Would love to see a video of this paired with Twisted Electrons' Blast Beats. If not for the sweet music they could make together then for how rad they would look side by side.

At last. I'm always baffled by the lack of LFOs and Envelopes on synths these days. I simply can't believe that they are that juicy on DSP or CPU (scrub out whatever is the right there!) and when ASM put 5 LFO and envelopes on the Hydrasynth it felt like it was a WOW moment yet still baffled why so few. Now that said too many can be overkill. Maybe that's so here but at last, at last, the chance to put that to test. Great stuff!!!

I think, despite my glib clickbaity title, the thing that makes it make sense is less to think about there being "lots" of modulators and instead think of it in terms of "modulator per knob", and then it's like: "yeah, of course that makes sense as something I'd want. It's not perfect in every case of course - sometimes you might want common modulators going to multiple places or a more complex mod matrix, but if this is an experiment to see if it can work - I'd say yes. Interestingly (to me at least), I did come up with one other unit I can think of that uses this approach. It's not a synth, but the Bastl Thyme does the 'modulator per knob' thing too.

This is precisely what modular is for. I too lamented the lack of LFOs and EGs on mainstream synths - so I stopped using them and ""built"" my own.

Oscillator Sink can this replace the need for Avalon Analogue Bassline?
@OscillatorSink
2 жыл бұрын
I'm not that familiar with it. It looks like they are aiming to do different things despite their similarities. The Avalon, from reading, looks like an "elevated" 303 whereas the Mono is a different beast that just happens to have an X0X sequencer. On paper, personally, the Norand is definitely more exciting from my perspective, and can do a good 303 impression if needed, but it'll be down to what you want/need.
@jjurksztowicz

The Avalon is more 303 than 303. It has a sublime squelch. This guy gives me more modern Aphex vibes. I want both but I’m a total acid fanatic.
