Recorded on May 27th & 29th at the Strasburg Rail Road in Strasburg, Pennsylvania
After two years operating at the Strasburg Rail Road, a partnership between the Virginia Museum of Transportation and Strasburg, the VMT felt it was time for the famed Norfolk & Western J Class 4-8-4 Northern steam engine #611, dubbed the Queen of Steam, to return to her birthplace, Roanoke, Virginia. And so the VMT and Strasburg hosted N&W 611's "Farewell Tour" with another N&W family member operating, M Class 4-8-0 Mastodon steam engine, #475. These two engines would operate the hour long trains between Strasburg Station and Paradise Junction with 475 and 611 running 30 minute intervals.
The trains start out operating backwards out of Strasburg towards Paradise, once arriving the locomotives runaround to the front and lead the train back into Strasburg Station. Halfway, the two trains would pass each other at Groff's Picnic Grove.
Certain the Virginia Museum of Transportation knows what the future holds for N&W 611, railfans are guessing and speculating as to when and where the Queen of Steam will operate.
