Hmm well 200 rounds for $150 is still getting up there, but with prices now the best I've seen in the yellow box steelcore is well over a dollar a bullet. I seen 1200 rounds for $1500's, but I've also seen people charging $60 for 30 rounds. Which is 2$'s a bullet, and I can't even imagine what some wishful scammers are trying to get on it. Because I've seen dude at a gun show selling 20 steelcore rounds for 55$'s, and this was like 3 or 4 years ago. So now with prices even crazier I can only imagine, kind of makes me want to grab the 1200 rounds because I'm sure the prices will keep going up.

@JB-pb9xv What gets me are the prices some people charge compared to the price online. $16-$20 a box of steelcased 7.62x39 of the same stuff I can find online for $9.99. I've yet to figure that one out. As I could drive to at least one of those online retailers and on their shelf it's still $9.99 so it's not like brick and mortar overhead vs. online retail.

I haven't been able to find any actual know AP 7.62x39 to try out. The only two calibers I've been able to aquire in known AP are 7.92 and 30.06. I have yet to do a video on the 30.06 as I don't have a rifle in that caliber as of yet. Once I aquire a rifle and I have the time I'll do a video on the 30.06 much like I did for the 7.92.

So I'm pretty sure the majority of people who buy or at least those who are willing to pay an increases premium on these Norinco rounds, do so because of the novelty and because of the "steelcore." They do have better penetration, but it's pretty minimal. What I would like to see tested and where I believe the steelcored ammo really out performs the standard lead rounds is in the penetration and the destruction done to different material targets. We already know that its a "mild steelcore," and that its NOT armor penetrating or all that more effective on steel targets. However where lead rounds are likely to deform much sooner and more easily then the steelcore, are when shooting and penetrating through things like block walls or brick. I think you would get a fair amount more penetration and destruction to things like walls and cement blocks, or the softer metal of like vehicles and car doors. Or of "doors" in general and wood, like wooden house doors. An certain things that your standard lead fmj's will likely go through, but that could or will also cause allot of deformation to the lead slug. Killing all the bullets velocity and/or throwing off the bullets trajectory path on the opposing end or side, whereas a steelcore round and the core itself might continue through. In a straighter path, and with more velocity and mass to it. It would be interesting to see them compared and tested on some of these different targets though, from closer range maybe like 25 yards or no more then 50 yards. I didn't actually know that these Chinese steelcore rounds were made because the mild steel is cheaper by weight in volume, then lead is though. An that all the hype around them was basically just bs to ban more stuff from import. An never actually had anything to do with making rounds more penetrable. I wonder how hard it is to find any 7.62x39 steelcore rounds, that actually have a hardened steel core though.

You make many good points and if had the time I'd be more than interested in testing against different barriers. My biggest gripe about these rounds aren't the rounds themselves but the people selling them as something they are not. Which is evident when you compare them to other hardened steel core rounds such as the 8mm SmK I tested. I have seen occasionally supposedly AP 7.62x39 that could be legitimate but it tends to be outside the scope of my budget. Although I do have a few interesting .223/5.56 rounds to test against steel soon. I appreciate your input and points.

I have a very hard time finding any 7.62x39mm AP ammunition be it Chinese or otherwise. I'm not sure about the legality of it either as there are some fine points when it comes to AP ammunition. I have found and test German 8mm Mauser AP and APT from WWII and have a couple videos on that. AP ammunition acts totally differently than mild steel core ammunition such as the Norinco I looked at in this video.

I'm not for certain, but it would make me think that it possibly uses a powder with a slower burn rate so there's enough unburned powder that when the bolt opens it flames out the breach. As said I'm not 100% on that but with the short barrel it would make sense as well. Thanks for watching, hopefully you found that helpful.

Hard body armor that is made to stop rifle rounds I think would stop this. I've not tested it but given it's similar results at standard fmj rounds I think rifle rated body armor would stop it. If you watch my video on 8mm AP compared to FMJ the difference is night and day between mild core and hardened core AP ammunition.
