Bringing in the PLO to fill the vacuum won’t necessarily fix the issues. When people feel like their government is pushed on them from an outside source there is an innate sense to push back. That’s why Karzai had to deal with a lot of civil unrest in areas outside of the Kandahar Province, and after 2009 he began to try and mend ties with the Taliban.

Yishai is actually, at heart, a good guy. He is the representative of Hebron and the self-appointed leader of Judea and Samaria (Yishai--if you ever read this, correct me if I am wrong!)! He is very dedicated to everything he does and his commitment to Israel and the Jewish people is commendable! FYI--Hebron, a VERY debated area, is only 3% Jews and the rest of the 97% is all theirs and Jews are not even allowed. Which is why some of the streets, checkpoints and houses are laid out a bit oddly. There are a few orgs who give tours from their perspective, while Yishai does the Jewish POV. Sadly, very few watch/tour both. And they should!!

i think the discussion over "the longest occupied in the history" is kinda stupid. Because in that framing, you'd need to question whether a lot of today's states are an ongoing occupation that no-one cares about. Shoutouts to Ireland, maybe all of the UK, Germany's borders (regardless of which side you argue it would be a nightmare), the balkans, arguably southern Spain, Constantinople, Cyprus, India, French-Guyana etc.

None of these are actually legally occupied though. People in these places might want breakaway states, but they are still recognised as full citizens of the countries they're in with all of the rights that affords. Palestinians in Gaza/West Bank are not absorbed into Israel and made citizens. Israel doesn't claim them because they don't want them, and they defend against accusations of apartheid by specifically claiming that these are not actually parts of Israel and the citizens are not Israelis. They don't get to participate in Israel, and they also don't get their own sovereign states to participate in, and it's been like that for literally decades. Furthermore, parties in Israel like Likud specifically do not have any intention of ever changing that. Their own charter rebuke any attempts to create a separate Palestinian state or to absorp the people of Palestine in as citizens.
@Drigallski

@@krombopulos_michael today and legally yes. But my argument wasn't to say anything specifically about the current conflict, but rather to argue around the point of "is this the longest occupation ever". One thing that has gotten particularly annoying to me when people are criticizing discourse is when the person criticizing invokes gender or race of the people discussing a topic. Whether or not someone has “skin in the game” really has nothing to do with whether or not people should be allowed to discuss a topic. In this case, he said “two white guts with no skin in the game”. The hypocrisy is, I’d imagine he’d have no problem with the United States, a majority white country, sending aide to Palestine. Btw I went to Hebron last summer with the PA, and at H1 (the Arab-Palestinian side) they all refer to it in english as Hebron. Its all “Hebron Chamber of Commerce,” “Hebron Glass Blowing…” not a single person I spoke to said Al-Khalil in english. I dont speak Arabic, and I’m sure they say it in arabic, as they say Al-Quds with Jerusalem, but it is commonplace to say Hebron, and highly unusual to call it by its arabic name in English. It is purely a virtue signal, and no logical person and no one in the PA would refer to it that way. Just seems so weird americans trying so hard to virtue signal on this.

Jews lived in Hevron until the Hevron massacre in 1928. Moreover Hevron is important for the jews because it is considered holy with the cave of the patriarchs. You can't expect the jews to give the second holiest place to judaism especially because the holiest place to judaism is occupied by the Muslims in the temple mount
