As we will see on this episode of the Vanntage Point, TVA was one of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s first hundred days programs. The construction of Norris Dam was the first project pursued by TVA. While TVA has been applauded in academic literature and popular culture, there were some unsavory aspects to it. Indeed, the volume of people who were displaced during the 1930s to build TVA dams rivals the number of people who were displaced and sent on the Trail of Tears 100 years earlier. In some respects, these displacements were as reprehensible as the Indian Removal Act championed by Andrew Jackson in 1830. It promises to be a thought-provoking show, so I hope you’ll join me.
