North cascades in May is an interesting choice. Typically by mid July the slow has mostly melted.

We don’t live in Washington so we went over Memorial Day weekend since we had time off. It was definitely a little early in the season. I wanted to see waterfalls and in May I was told there would be too much snow at Rainer and heard Cascades would be a little better even if there is still some snow. It was still beautiful. Of course if you can go in mid June that’s great but not everyone can.

Makes sense. Completely agree that Mt Rainier’s too snowy at that point. I think many of the mountain areas are pretty snowy in Washington into July, including Hurricane Ridge on Olympic National Park. North Cascades is certainly less travelled than some of the other areas in the state.

Wow, it looks so much lush! Could you tell if other people were hiking the snow covered trails with boots or snowshoes?

It’s was so beautiful! We did see some people that were cross country skiing, so I bet snowshoeing or boots with spikes would have worked too. Living in Utah you’d think we’d be more prepared for snow 😂
