Everything is designed very well and fancy. I can't imagine what its like to live in such a City. The walking distances where soo big and there wheren't many people around so can i ask you, how is it like to live in Ashgabat? Do you walk around the cities with friends and family? Are there places where you hang out? What do you do at all these huge and big parks, Monuments, buildings? What is the daily life like? One thing though, Pyongyang, like Seoul has existed as a city for more than 2000 years with Pyongyang and then Wiryeseong (Seoul) existing as huge cities during the Three Kingdoms Period of Korea. Ashgabat has also existed as a city for almost 1000 years already. Although both of them do have post 50s infrastructure, a lot of the historical sites from centuries up to millenia ago still exist in these cities.

The reason we mainly see North Korea over Turkmenistan because Turkmenistan is forced to interact with the outside world to Survive. It has some of the largest natural gas reserves in the world and it has to constantly negotiate to get said gas out of the nation so they can sell it to China and the EU, 2 countries that need natural gas and don’t want to rely on the Russian monopoly. Thus when their first post soviet dictator died the country was softened to be more attractive to the west.

North korea is very secretive to the outside world, the people never have acsesss to the outside world, the people kinda unfriendly and they are very disterssed. But i like more Turkmenistan bc its much better than N. Korea. 🇹🇲♥️

You can get a Turkmen transit visa valid for up to a week, in which case you don't need a tour guide or pre-booked tour. There are a few catches though. First both the entry and exit must be done at land borders, not Ashgabat airport. So you will need a visa for onward travel into Iran/Kazakhstan/Uzbekistan. Also you will need a vehicle as public transport is scarce. Second, there is a lot of additional bureaucracy involved. Local laws say that visitors on transit visas need special permits to visit the north, east and west areas of the country. Since you must exit from another country than the one you arrived in Turkmenistan from it means going into these areas for crossing to or from Kazakhstan or Uzbekistan, so those permits are a must. It's unnecessarily complicated, but for those wishing to travel freely it may be worth it.

Everyone knows about North Korea, but I am becoming more and more fascinated by Turkmenistan. Pyongyang and Ashgabat have such regal, laid out, and conceptually and beautifully brutalist feels to them. The way that Pyongyang’s gray color contrasts with its red, white, and blue flag and how Ashgabat’s white and gold contrast with its green, red, and white flag are astonishingly appealing and give off an aesthetically and almost cartoonish dystopian feeling.

As a south korean, the reason why north korea happen to be a much oppressive government is because of the existence of south korea. Unlike turkmenistan where they can not worry about collapsing as much, north korea has example of their same people that shares blood that shows a brighter future which could be enough to crash the nation. Amd unlike mainland china, where they can easily allow their people to go to taiwan because they are sorta rich, north korea is just met with policy faillures. And theyve seem to kinda reviewed what happened to east germany by let them be exposed to foreign media i guess.

Their difference is: Turkmenistan: Has oil and gas to sell, become buddies with America because of it, people have less things to worry about. North Korea: Happen to cross with America, build a nuclear weapon because of it, the govt and people have TOO much to worry about which requires suffering to be made. Still, both countries are pretty bizarre due to extreme dictatorship, and they still have few things in common.
