This episode picks up the tour in the south of Austria on our fourth day on the Alpe Adria cycle route, day 42 of the overall tour. We ride through the Drava river valley to the town of Villach, into the Julian Alps very close to the Slovenian border. That takes us to the Italian border where we're now following the FVG 1 trail, much of which follows a disused railway line that has been turned into a top-class dedicated cycle path. We have an overnight in the idyllic village of Valbruna - our favourite accommodation of the trip thus far. The episode ends in Venzone, a town with a great story of its own.
Resources:
We used Bikeline's "Alpe Adria Radweg" book, unfortunately still not available in english (it's in german) but the maps are still very good and show all the campgrounds and points of interest.
My favourite website for route info - italy-cycling-guide.info/inte... (although for some reason it now comes with an "unsecure" warning)
Another useful website alpe-adria-cycling.com/the-al...
The Bed and Breakfast we stayed at in Valbruna was called "Affittacamere Krajnc" in case anyone is wondering. It was our favourite accommodation of the trip because of its quiet and spectacular location, as well as the pleasant interior and good breakfast. We found it on Booking.com (no business affiliation!)
