I own one of these and even when it broke down and left me sitting on a roundabout for a couple of hours waiting for the RAC and whilst cursing it for letting me down I still couldn't help thinking how great it looked!

I hope no offence is taken, but rev matching downward gearshifts on this sort of machine makes the shifts smoother and not only that, they sound better to.

A terrific-sounding bike. OHC? Isolastic-type mounting? I'll have to poke around to learn more. This is a blast from the past that I hope lasts.

I used a spinning dice to get rid of the rain and flies. It would look silly now.

um sorry but the Hinkley Triumph is nothing like the original Triumph engines other than being a twin.. It's a 5 main bearing engine (which keeps it smoother, that I agree with in fact I think it's too smooth for a twin, and supposedly more reliable but actually just adds to the width of the engine and weight of the bike.. the original engines with ball bearings were more than reliable enough if maintained well.. it's not uncommon to see them with 200,000 miles on the original crank bearings.) Also the new engine has dual overhead cams instead of cams in the cases and 4 valves per cylinder. Theoretically it should be far more powerful than the old 1960s 650s but they only make the same amount of power as a slightly massaged 650 at about 55HP... which is very sad considering its fuel injected, 215cc larger, slightly higher compression and at a little over 100lbs heavier it definitely needs more power. What you end up with is a bike that wants to take a bite out of the Harley Davidson market while still being somewhat British and all you get is the Harley style overweight, underpowered, can't make it around a turn pig... without the great sound of a Harley.. the Hinkley Triumph sounds like an anemic Japanese bike (a stock Ninja or Versys 650 Kawasaki sounds far better.. hell even a Honda CB1100 sounds more like a classic brit twin at idle and it's a 4 cylinder! The Norton is far closer to the original engine design. It's still a cam in case pushrod 2 valve per cylinder engine (and a preunit at that) with modern fuel injected added on and a respectable 80HP and roughly 50lbs lighter (447lbs wet to the T100's 496 wet) and the Norton still has that classic sound (I actually put on a video of it and my father was able to tell it was a Norton purely by the sound) plus it comes with Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes stock, even if it another $6k USD more.... though at that price you might as well buy a Ducati Monster 1200s, Diavel or Panigale.
