It's a complicated topic, but their software along with basically all other antivirus software has been mostly a scam from the very beginning, and only got worse from there (mostly as in they hype up and even harvest/create bunk threats, and any real malware was not only very limited in actual scope, but any of the bad ones were never stopped by major antivirus software when they were actually a problem in the wild). Now you're pretty crazy to pay for or use anything aside from Windows Defender or other built in OS protection (because its still signature based anyway, and even more effective because its used by the widest number of people and updated the most quickly and consistently through windows itself), because all 3rd party antivirus software is actually bloated malware/adware these days, or is otherwise just specialized scanners good for finding/fixing infections after they have actually happened.

It is the hashrate, for the money YOU get, after the 15 percent tax. .85 * 39 = 33.15 39 is the hash rate you got from nicehash, and 33 is roughly near the hashrate you got from norton. I used a 2060 to test this, my card is rated for 33 Mh/s, but norton reported around 28. 85 percent of 33 comes to around 28. Just thought of letting you guys know. Peace.

With that power use and hash rate there would be no profit to begin with where i live. 160W continious would be around 40€/Month in electricity alone while their cashout is around 30€/month.

Its Symantec - they really crossed the line decades ago when they forced you to install far more than you wanted - such as a full suite to get Ghost backup. You can imagine the internal Marketing pitch for this and its immediate acceptance. Now given that this is a departure from their primary business - how are they reporting this new revenue stream to stock analysts and shareholders?

Maybe the displayed hash rate is just wrong for Norton. They display a lower rate and use the rest themselves. 15% cut off of your low hash rate and 100% off of the hidden hash rate.

< I totally agree with what you are saying....The fact is, BTC is the future of crypto and the questions traders ask themselves now if this is right time to invest? before jumping into conclusion i think you should take a look at things first. for the past few days the price of BTC has been fluctuating which means the market is currently unstable and you cant tell if it is going bearish or bullish. while others still continue to trade without the fear of making lose, others are being patient. it all depends on the pattern with which you trade and also the source of your signals. i would say trading has been going smoothly for me, i started with 2.5 BTC and i have accumulated over 11.6 BTC in just three weeks, with the trading strategy given to me by expert trader Hudson Owen.

I'd imagine that this crypto miner is specifically targeted to unscrupulous IT help desk workers. It feels like it would be easy to have Norton installed on all computers in the workplace since it is an 'anti-virus'. Then just reap the rewards, using the company's electricity with them being likely none the wiser.
@W1ldTangent

Absolutely. We had a sysadmin at my company fired, and in the aftermath post-mortem audit of everything he ever touched found BTC mining software on some servers. We immediately reformatted and built back up piece by piece the stuff we couldn't just nuke from orbit, and then replaced the rest. Firing a sysadmin is not cheap, they have to be the most solid and trustworthy person in your entire company if you're a small business and can't delegate the IT department's authority to specific people with specific areas of responsibility and authority.

The workers might start questioning why their workstations are always in the IT shop being "tuned", and made into space heaters. or a school with a computer lab, where the staff or students try and do the same thing. Valve already had that happen in games you payed for.
